LeRoy W. Homer Jr. Foundation We encourage and support young adults who wish to pursue aviation careers. The LeRoy W. Homer Jr. The mission of The LeRoy W.

Foundation was founded in 2002, in memory of LeRoy Homer, First Officer of United Airlines #93 when it crashed in Shanksville, PA on September 11th, 2001. Foundation is to encourage and support young adults who wish to pursue careers as professional pilots in addition to promoting awareness about aviation careers. Since The Foundation began in 2002, seventeen scholarships have been granted. Fourte

en recipients received their private pilot license. All but one individual is working in the field of aviation as follows:

Nine individuals have graduated from four-year programs with degrees including aeronautical engineering, aeronautical science, aviation, flight technology, and aviation business. The Foundation’s first scholarship recipient recently completed his training for tailhook in the US Navy. Another has just been accepted into the Navy pilot program after going through the ROTC program. One recipient is currently serving in the US Marine Corp. Two female recipients have been selected for pilot slots in the US Air Force. There are currently five students still completing their undergraduate degrees as well as adding additional ratings – instrument, complex, commercial single engine etc. One recipient has recently become a certified flight instructor.

💙✈️ The original three!

In 2003, Sarah Cooke, Michael Scott and Richard Valenta became the very first scholarship recipients of the LeRoy W. Homer Jr. Foundation.

Since then, that first step into aviation has led to some extraordinary places. Sarah went on to serve as an Air Force pilot and now flies the Boeing 787 for United. Michael became a Naval Aviator and F/A-18 pilot, later transitioning to the F-15 with the Air National Guard while also flying for FedEx. Richard became a Naval Aviator and test pilot, flying the F/A-18 and F-35 and continuing his career in military flight test.

Last month, all three returned for our 25th Anniversary Event, where they took the stage to share their stories and reflect on where that early opportunity helped lead them.

From our first three recipients to 40 scholarships awarded, they are a powerful reminder of what one opportunity can become.

Help us create the next opportunity. 💙✈️

✈️ This is why we run.

Every face here represents a dream that was given a chance.

LeRoy knew that dream himself. From the time he was a child, he dreamed of flying. Today, that same love of aviation lives on in the young people given an opportunity to pursue dreams of their own.

A first flight lesson. A first solo. A private pilot certificate. And for so many, the beginning of an aviation journey that has taken them farther than they could have imagined.

It starts with an opportunity.

That’s what your participation in the 9/11 LeRoy Homer 5K & 1 Mile Walk helps make possible. Every registration supports the Foundation’s flight scholarship program, helping another aspiring aviator take those first steps toward a dream of flight.

On September 13, we run and walk in memory of LeRoy and in support of those who will follow.

We’ve had the privilege of following London’s aviation journey over the years, and it’s been wonderful to watch her continue to pursue her goals with hard work, determination and a love of flying.

We are so proud to celebrate this major accomplishment with her and all that she has achieved along the way.

💙✈️ Today, on what would have been LeRoy W. Homer Jr.’s 61st birthday, we celebrate his life and the lasting impact he continues to have on so many.

LeRoy dreamed of flying from the time he was a child. He earned his private pilot license as a teenager and went on to serve as a U.S. Air Force pilot and United Airlines First Officer, serving as First Officer of United Flight 93 on September 11, 2001.

That childhood dream of flight continues to inspire young aviators today. Through the Foundation created in his memory, 40 scholarship recipients have been given the opportunity to begin aviation journeys of their own.

Seeing so many of our recipients together this past weekend was a beautiful reminder of how one life and one dream can inspire so many others.

Happy birthday, LeRoy. Remembered with love, celebrated always, and still inspiring dreams of flight. 💙✈️

❤️✈️ What a night.

Last night, recipients from across the years came together with family, friends and supporters to honor LeRoy and celebrate the incredible journeys his legacy continues to inspire.

There was something deeply meaningful about seeing so many recipients together in one room, each with a different story and a different journey, all connected by an opportunity that began with LeRoy.

Looking around the room was a powerful reminder that his legacy continues to live on through every life touched, every dream pursued and every journey still unfolding.

To everyone who joined us, supported the evening, and has helped carry this mission forward over the years, thank you. Your generosity and belief in what we do have made so many of these journeys possible.

✈️ Sometimes LeRoy’s legacy shows up in the most meaningful ways.

We recently received a note from Karen Angelo about her son, Nick, who just reached an exciting milestone: earning his Private Pilot Certificate!

Nick is a Professional Pilot student at Community College of Beaver County and flies and works with Aces Aviation.

For his checkride, Nick wore a memorial wings pin honoring LeRoy on his collar. Even his FAA examiner noticed the pin and recognized LeRoy’s name.

Congratulations, Nick! Thank you for carrying LeRoy’s memory with you as you continue your own aviation journey. ❤️✈️

A meaningful reminder of how one aviator’s legacy can continue to inspire another.
