We encourage and support young adults who wish to pursue aviation careers. The LeRoy W. Homer Jr. The mission of The LeRoy W.

Foundation was founded in 2002, in memory of LeRoy Homer, First Officer of United Airlines #93 when it crashed in Shanksville, PA on September 11th, 2001. Foundation is to encourage and support young adults who wish to pursue careers as professional pilots in addition to promoting awareness about aviation careers. Since The Foundation began in 2002, seventeen scholarships have been granted. Fourteen recipients received their private pilot license. All but one individual is working in the field of aviation as follows:

Nine individuals have graduated from four-year programs with degrees including aeronautical engineering, aeronautical science, aviation, flight technology, and aviation business. The Foundation’s first scholarship recipient recently completed his training for tailhook in the US Navy. Another has just been accepted into the Navy pilot program after going through the ROTC program. One recipient is currently serving in the US Marine Corp. Two female recipients have been selected for pilot slots in the US Air Force. There are currently five students still completing their undergraduate degrees as well as adding additional ratings – instrument, complex, commercial single engine etc. One recipient has recently become a certified flight instructor.

Another milestone for Alexander Wall! ✈️

Congratulations to 2025 scholarship recipient Alexander Wall, who has earned his Instrument Rating!

It’s been an exciting few weeks for Alexander, who was also recently awarded the Captain Jason Dahl Scholarship during a September 11 ceremony in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Alexander now has the unique distinction of receiving scholarships honoring both pilots of United Flight 93 as he pursues his aviation education and flight training at Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

We’re so proud to see Alexander continue building his skills and reaching new milestones in his aviation journey.

✈️ First solo!

Huge congratulations to 2026 scholarship recipient Kyan Huynh on completing his first solo flight!

Taking the controls alone for the first time is a milestone every pilot remembers, and we’re so excited to celebrate this moment with Kyan as he continues working toward his Private Pilot Certificate.

Congratulations, Kyan! We’re proud to be part of your aviation journey and can’t wait to see what comes next. 💙✈️

✈️ Huge congratulations to 2023 scholarship recipient Jayden Walker on earning her Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) certificate!

Jayden successfully passed her checkride and has reached another exciting milestone in her aviation journey.

Becoming a CFI means Jayden can now take everything she has learned and help train the next generation of aviators while continuing to pursue her own goals in aviation.

Congratulations, Jayden! We’re so proud to watch your journey continue and can’t wait to see where it takes you next. 💙✈️

💙✈️ One Legacy. Countless Journeys.

Last month, recipients from across the years came together with family, friends and supporters for our 25th Anniversary Event, honoring LeRoy and reflecting on the many journeys his life continues to inspire.

From our first scholarship recipients in 2003 to 40 scholarships awarded, seeing so many generations of the Foundation together in one room was incredibly special. Different years, different paths and different stories, all connected by an opportunity to pursue a dream of flight.

An evening like this was only possible because of an incredible community. We are deeply grateful to our Partners of Impact: United employees through Just A Buck, The Ray Foundation, Sargent Private Wealth, and along with our event committee, volunteers, creative and media supporters, silent auction donors, recipients, families and everyone who joined us.

Thank you to everyone who has helped carry LeRoy’s memory forward while creating opportunities for the next generation of aviators.

Twenty-five years later, the journeys continue. 💙✈️

💙✈️ Rain couldn’t stop us!

This morning, our community came together for the 3rd Annual 9/11 LeRoy Homer 5K & 1 Mile Walk, and even a very rainy morning couldn’t keep this group from showing up to remember LeRoy and support the next generation of aviators.

Thank you to everyone who ran, walked, volunteered, cheered and braved the rain with us today, and to our sponsors and everyone participating virtually from across the country. A special shout out to Sewa International South Jersey for volunteering with us for the third year in a row! We are so grateful to each of you for being part of this special day.

A special thank you to Mayor Jackie Veasy Heather Cooper, MPA, SHRM-CP and the Evesham Township leadership and community, and to the Evesham Township Police (NJ) for once again helping keep everyone safe and supporting us throughout the morning. 💙

Twenty-five years later, it means so much to see this community continue to show up, remember and help create opportunities for future aviators.

💙 September 12 is a day we don’t talk about as often.

Twenty-five years ago, in the days following September 11, communities came together to support one another through an unimaginable time.

Yesterday at the Flight 93 National Memorial, we saw that spirit of community again as families, friends, fellow aviators, scholarship recipients and supporters gathered to honor the 40 passengers and crew of Flight 93.

Tomorrow, we’ll come together once more.

💙 Twenty-five years later, we remember.

Today we honor LeRoy, the passengers and crew of United Flight 93, and all those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. We honor their courage, their lives, and the families and loved ones who carry their memories every day.

As we reflect on LeRoy and his lifelong love of aviation, we are incredibly grateful for everyone who has helped carry his memory forward by creating opportunities for future aviators. This year, we were honored to award our 40th flight scholarship in memory of the 40 passengers and crew of Flight 93.

This Sunday, our community will come together for the 9/11 LeRoy Homer 5K & 1 Mile Walk, honoring LeRoy while supporting future aviators.

💙✈️ A special highlight of our 40th scholarship recipient, Bradyn Long.

Yesterday, we shared the significance of reaching 40 scholarships in honor of the 40 passengers and crew of Flight 93. Today, we’re proud to share Bradyn’s story.

Bradyn has a deeply personal connection to Flight 93. He grew up visiting the Flight 93 National Memorial, where his grandmother has served as a volunteer ambassador, and that connection helped inspire his own aviation journey.

As we mark 25 years since September 11, Bradyn reflected on what it means to carry LeRoy’s memory forward:

“I want to be part of the reason his name will never be forgotten.”

Tomorrow, Bradyn will be in Shanksville representing the Foundation at the 25th anniversary memorial service.

We’re incredibly proud of you, Bradyn, and grateful to Mississippi State for sharing his story. 💙✈️
