I am honored to be a small part to the start of healing for the Indy Firehawks. National Police Wives Association president Kelli Lowe and her husband retired Sgt. Charles Lowe set about creating a safe space for the kids and parents to vent, voice concerns, and start the process of healing after trauma.

Over the weekend, one of their coaches was shot after a youth League football game.

A special thanks go out to the officers who, on their own time, came to support these kids as well. Thank you for providing a positive law enforcement experience for the kids and their families. It's always important to continue our mission of bridge building between community and law enforcement.

Major Campbell, Hancock County Sheriff's Department
Deputy Tillman, Hancock County Sheriff's Department
Trooper Bill Spalding, Indiana State Police Indianapolis District
Officer Bower, Ingalls Police Department
Officer Waterman, Ingalls Police Department

Below are more organizations that are boots on the ground along the path of destruction from Georgia to Tennessee.

If you are able to donate, please consider donating to one of these organizations to help with Hurricane Helena rescue efforts and getting supplies to those that need it.

https://www.samaritanspurse.org/

https://www.cajunnavyrelief.com/donate/

https://ncwg.gocivilairpatrol.org - Civil Air Patrols have been activated all along the path of this storm.

https://fop.net/donate/

https://www.facebook.com/mountainmulepackersranch - this group is using their mule trains to get supplies up into the areas that can't be reached by roads. They have a venmo and contact information on their page. If you can get them the stuff, they can pack it up to where it's needed.

https://watermission.org/

https://prestigehelicopters.com/ - They are deploying their helicopters where they can - but fuel costs money. Call and donate to help those costs and keep them in the air

https://www.facebook.com/totalflightsolutions - again, Total Flight Solutions they are deploying what they can where they can. Call to donate towards fuel costs.

These are just some of the many places that are getting in and getting things done.

By this time, I am sure everyone has seen or heard of the devastation that Hurricane Helene has caused from the Florida Keys all the way up to here in central Indiana.

This storm was unprecedented. Making landfall in an area that had not seen a hurricane make land fall in quite some time as a category 4. It was still a category 1 hurricane as it crossed Georgia into South Caroline and North Carolina. This storm has left a horrific reality in its wake and that was with some warning. As it moved west it's strong wind and rain has literally washed towns away.

The loss of life will take weeks to be fully realized. We already know that first responders and civilians alike have parished.

Our first responders are fighting so hard to save those in need. They are working around the clock, with little to no rest, some having already lost everything themselves.

Blue Bond is asking if you have the ability to, to please donate to the National Fraternal Order of Police the NFOP have deployed 2 of their Disaster Action Response Teams to help those on the ground.

You van donate here: https://fop.net/donate/

We will have other vetted organizations to donate too as soon as they are vetted.

Our officers leave their families every day to risk their lives to protect you. Please donate and help honor the more than 373,000 heroes today! National Fraternal Order of Police […]

I have taken a few days to absorb what happened on Saturday. If you are unaware, there was an assassination attempt made on former President Trump in Pennsylvania.

Since then, I have seen the absolute depths of depravity from humanity via posts and videos saying it was too bad it wasn't half an inch in the other direction. I do not care what side of politics you are on. I do not care what party you are registered to vote in. I do not care what you identify yourself as, Trump is a human being. A living person.

If the answer to however you want this country ran is to not only support but to be sad/angry that someone's death didn't happen - you should be ashamed of yourself. That kind of thinking and belief says a lot about who you are as a person.

Everyone should know by now, that on THIS page, we do not enter into speculations. We do not enter into quick, kneejerk narratives. We present only the facts that are currently known and those are:

1. An assassination attempt was made on Trump. He was injured on his ear/side of his head.

2. There is one fatality who was located on the roof near the event. He was in possession of a long gun.

3. There is collateral damage in the form of 1 man dead and 2 others injured.

Investigations are on-going. News outlets will report what they report, but in the end it's up to you as a citizen to accept what they tell you or to go digging to find verified relevant information that the news is not reporting.

The whole action is senseless. The whole country is seeking to place blame on everyone but where it fully lies, the hands of the shooter. There are absolutely hundreds of questions that start with Why and How. That is not for me to ask nor answer here.

What I am going to do is to say the names of the innocent victims in this event.

* Retired fire chief Cory Comperatore, 50. His wife and daughter were at the rally with him. He used his own body and life as a shield to save their lives. His death was senseless and unnecessary, but he died an absolute hero. A person's decision to play God violently ripped a loved one away from his family - for what? For what? My heart goes out to his family.

*Marine veteran David Dutch, 57. He was shot in the chest and liver. He survived surgeries and at last report was in stable condition however, there is a report that he's currently in a medically induced coma.

* James Copenhaver, 74 also suffered a gunshot wound and is being reported in stable condition.

* The family of the Matthew Crooks. Regardless of that young man's actions and until more information comes to light about any family involvement, his family will now be required to mourn their loss silently. They may feel like they are not allowed to mourn his loss, but they have every right too. That young man was a human too but made a choice that had deadly consequences.

Personally, I am glad that Trump was also not severely injured, not because I may or may not support him, but because he is also an innocent victim here too. Take away his name and his position, he's a man who put his pants on one leg at a time this morning just like the rest of us.

There are no winners here. There never are winners in situations like this. The divide in this country is so deep. I look at my children and fear for them. Hold your families tight and pray for the injured, dead, and their families.

Tonight I had the honor and privilege to present 2 crocheted blankets from Covering the Blue to Sgt. Shane Isaacs and Officer Jerry Branson of the Pendleton Police Department in Indiana.

Sgt. Isaacs was injured in 2012 and Officer Branson in May 2024.

Thank you both and all the officers who put their lives on the line every day for their community.

I wanted to take a moment and give attention to 2 groups of what I consider first responders as well.

This week is National Corrections Week as well as National Nurses Week.

These 2 groups of professionals may not be out in the field like our officers are, but they are a part of our family just like fire, EMS, and dispatchers. They are on the front lines and in the trenches in their own way.

If you see a CO or nurse this week, thank them for their service.
