A Tribute to Anthony Shirley: We honor the man—a foundational pillar of the camp family and celebrate his contributions in the many paths he walked with his talents. Our memories will be different, depending on when we met him or worked with him, but we all benefitted from his knowledge, skills and his presence. We cannot speak of the legacy of our camps—all of them--Ivakota, Pleasant, Goodwill and Moss Hollow--without thinking of Anthony. He helped to build The Hollow--literally--and put his stamp on the program that lasted for years. Anthony’s impact went beyond his years of service in his various roles at the camps including directing The Hollow and Ivakota. His vision, work ethic and love for the program was evident to those who knew him, and his quiet strength was embraced by the children he taught and served.

We are grateful to Anthony for those gestures of care, acts of kindness and for the time he took to shed light on new paths for so many. Our deepest condolences to the family of Anthony E. Shirley. And special hugs of comfort to all of the Shirley’s – our camp brothers and sisters--Michael, Butch, Rob, Fleacy, Cam, Twig, Tomoko, Jug and Kathy--from your camp family. Know that the friendships forged between us in that special place called camp years ago, still remain today, and we are here for you--with love and deepest sympathy to your family.
