This is a play about hope, kindness, and persistence and choosing good over bad and happy over sad.
This play is based on the life story of Alexandra Flynn Scott (1996-2004) who, at the age of four, had her first lemonade stand to raise money for cancer research. The play takes place when she is 8. Alex was fiercely determined to make and difference and help others despite the challenges she faced amidst her own cancer journey (neuroblastoma). Her story reminds us all that a single person can change the world – one act, or even one cup at a time. It is a story of hope and heart, kindness, persistence, and love. The foundation in her name has raised over $300 million and has funded more than 1,500 research projects aimed at finding better treatments and cures for pediatric cancers.
This play calls for community involvement. At the end of the play, there will be a lemonade and cookie stand which will be accepting donations for a regional pediatric cancer foundation. The proceeds will be donated to Marshall Kids Cancer Foundation, a non-profit out of Greenville, Illinois. That foundation is named after the founder’s son Marshall, who is currently fighting leukemia. Their mission is as follows: To let mothers, fathers, and families know they are not alone, and to provide love, guidance, and a community that stands with them through every step. The foundation provides caring hands and financial support to those families.
