Today is National Apple Strudel Day, which feels like a reminder that the best things usually take time.
CASA advocacy is the same way.
No one becomes an advocate overnight. It takes love and time to really understand each child’s story and build trust along the way.
Also… we're craving Apple Strudel now.

(6/16/26) Rural Health, Inc. Teddy Bear Health Clinic: Play, Learn & Get Ready for School Event to be Held in July

(Southern Illinois) – Rural Health, Inc. announces it is planning the upcoming event, Teddy Bear Health Clinic: Play, Learn & Get Ready for School to be held in Anna this July for children ages 2 through 8th grade. The purpose of this event is to familiarize young children with getting a medical and dental exam in a stress-free setting, while allowing their families to meet with local healthcare providers, agencies, organizations, and personnel from Union County school districts.

This free event will be held on July 14 from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at the Davie Elementary/Anna Jr. High School in Anna, Illinois. The first 300 kids will receive a small Teddy Bear to take through a series of “check-up” stations designed to help ease medical fears through hands-on activities. During their visit, kids will also receive free first aid, dental, and hygiene kits, and a school backpack with supplies for their classroom. Hot dogs, chips, and drinks will also be provided.

Families will have an opportunity to create memories with their child at the Photo Booth, enjoy the Story-Time Reading Corner with Stinson Memorial Library, and plan their child’s back-to-school physicals, dental, and vaccination appointments with Rural Health, Inc. providers if needed. No medical or insurance information will be required to attend this event.

The Teddy Bear Health Clinic: Play, Learn & Get Ready for School event is being coordinated by Rural Health, Inc. in partnership with the Rural Health Opioid Response Team of Southern Illinois and Davie Elementary/Anna Jr. High School, and is presented in cooperation with Union County Schools.

Funding for this event is provided to RHI through the Rural Communities Opioid Response Program (RCORP) grant; a multi-year, federal initiative funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Every child deserves someone who shows up for them consistently.
For children in foster care, CASA volunteers become that steady presence. They're someone who listens and makes sure their voice doesn’t get lost in the process.
They’re trained to understand, advocate, and speak up for what’s in the child’s best interest.

Before a CASA volunteer ever talks to a child, they go through training designed to prepare them for the role.
No law background or experience needed. Come as you are.
Training covers:
• Child development
• Trauma-informed advocacy
• Communication skills
• Court process basics
• How the foster care system works
It’s everything you need to feel confident stepping into the role, even if you’re starting from scratch.
