♥️♥️♥️We are proud to be a part of the army of good people saving people - the “nobodies taking up the slack” that came together to help our area and communities. The Heart of Heart of North Cove (a 501c3) continues to help our community and help people devastated by Helene & to help local small businesses sustain themselves as we reclaim our economy. We continue to need donations of money and volunteers with skilled trades to help us complete our current and future projects to finish homes for community members. Our NonProfit is in need of a camper donation for a family in our area that have a child with autism and the father is unable to work due to serious health issues and the mother is the sole provider. They are in need of a place to live as a result of circumstances since Helene. We can offer a tax donation for the camper if desired from our 501c3.
We are continuing to accept monetary donations to help our residents of North Cove under our 501c3. We are working on three housing projects currently and can use volunteers with skilled labor to help us complete these projects. Our community still has great needs and we are working to stand in the gap to help, as we all continue to recover from Helene and its aftermath.

Holiday Food Basket Giveaway via The Catawba – This Saturday!

We’re excited to share the spirit of giving with our community,

This Saturday, November 15th from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, The Catawba will be giving out holiday baskets to 60 local families.

Each basket will include:

Turkey
2 boxes of stuffing mix
2 jars of gravy
2 cans of cranberry sauce
Celery and onions
Milk
Butter
Eggs
Sugar
Tea
Cooking oil
Boxed mashed potatoes
Yams
Green beans
Corn
Cake mix and frosting
Pie
Rolls

Important Details:

You must be present to receive a basket.
You must provide proof of residency in North Cove.

This generous gift has been made possible by a repeat faith-based donor from Bolivia, NC, whose continued support reminds us of the power of kindness. We are also grateful for the many donations that keep coming in from all parts of the state and region—your generosity makes a real difference for families in need.

When the first snowfall came last year, we were still actively working to secure housing for a large portion of the community. This first snowfall of 2025, we are blessed to be stocking fridges and pantries and continuing to lift the spirits of the community. Though time passes and needs change, our love and support for the community continues with each new season.

If anyone would like to donate non-perishable food items to help us prepare for our next community outreach event, you are welcome to bring them during this giveaway or contact us directly. Every contribution helps us keep this mission alive.

We are so grateful for Massanutten Technical Center’s work to provide homes for people that were displaced by Helene in our community! Weston Heatwole, Andrea & Seth Rhoades, Ida & Leon Heatwole, and several other families from Dayton Mennonite Church and the Harrisonburg, VA area have blessed our community so much! We are extremely grateful for their support and their friendship!

In the time since Hurricane Helene hit, communities have worked to recover and rebuild, and Massanutten Technical Center is working to help make progress.

From being blocked in on 221 by landslides and a broken bridge to now! We are so grateful for this BIG step towards some semblance of normalcy for the North Cove community! (Mostly) no more driving through rivers or adding 30 minutes extra to commutes to school, work, or even the grocery store! Still so much to do but today we reflect on all the North Cove community and beyond have overcome!!♥️

Good news for residents of northern McDowell County: Highway 221 is now accessible to traffic. The bridge at Mountain Paradise Campground has been completed, and roadblocks above the caverns have been removed. We look forward to welcoming you soon!!!
