Today, we recognize and celebrate Juneteenth! A day that commemorates freedom and the ongoing pursuit of equality and justice.

At MAHS, we believe compassion should extend to all! We are grateful for the diverse community members, volunteers, adopters, supporters, and staff who help us create a welcoming environment where both people and animals are treated with kindness and respect.

🚨 **WE DESPERATELY NEED EVENT VOLUNTEERS!** 🚨

The Marion Area Humane Society is in urgent need of volunteers to help staff our public events. These events are a critical part of finding homes for our animals, educating the community, and raising much-needed funds.

**Event volunteer responsibilities include:**
🐾 Transporting dogs to and from events
🐾 Handling a dog during the event and interacting with the public
🐾 Answering questions about the dog you're working with
🐾 Collecting donations and supporting our outreach efforts

Most public events take place on **Saturday mornings and early afternoons**, with the occasional weekday event and a sporadic Sunday throughout the year.

Getting started is easy! Stop by the shelter during open hours to complete your emergency contact forms and liability waivers:

📍 Tuesday–Friday: 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM
📍 Saturday: 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM

Once your paperwork is completed, you'll be eligible to start helping with events right away!

Please consider donating a few hours of your time. Our dogs depend on these events to get seen by potential adopters, and we can't do it without dedicated volunteers. ❤️🐶

Meet Sig!

If you’re looking for a dog that is equal parts brains, athleticism, and personality, Sig might just be your perfect match.

This handsome guy is incredibly smart and loves learning. He already knows a variety of tricks, listens exceptionally well, and is eager to please. Whether you’re teaching him something new or brushing up on commands he already knows, Sig is always ready to show off his skills—especially if treats or toys are involved!

Sig has previously lived with children and other dogs. While he can potentially share a home with another dog, he can be a bit selective about his canine friends and would likely do best with a submissive dog that respects his space and personality.

An active home is a must for this energetic boy. Sig thrives when he has an outlet for both his physical energy and his intelligent mind. Hiking, running, long walks, training sessions, puzzle toys, or adventures with his people would all be right up his alley.

If you’re looking for a loyal companion who is smart, trainable, and ready for life’s adventures, Sig is waiting to meet you!

Last week was incredible—we found homes for 39 cats and kittens! ❤️ This week has been much slower, with only 5 adoptions so far, so we're hoping to help more of our feline friends find loving families before the week is over.

For just $30, your adoption fee includes:

✔️ Spay/neuter surgery
✔️ Feline Leukemia/FIV test
✔️ Vaccinations
✔️ Deworming
✔️ Monthly preventatives
✔️ Microchip

There are so many wonderful cats and kittens waiting to meet you!

🐾 PUPDATE: Brutus 🐾

It's hard to believe that Brutus has been in his forever home for about 6 months already! ❤️ We recently received an update from his adopter, and it sounds like he's living his best life.

"Just wanted to send you guys an update on Brutus. He's doing amazing! He loves his bones, loves the water, and loves being outside. He doesn't mind having his nails clipped, loves his shoes (although he runs right out of them 😂), and now loves car rides—which he definitely did not at first! He loves his sister and is living the best life. He is definitely a momma's boy ❤️❤️. We couldn't have asked for a better boy."

Stories like Brutus' remind us why we do what we do. Seeing our former shelter pets thriving in loving homes is the greatest reward. 🥰

And while Brutus has found his happily ever after, his sister Twix is still waiting for hers! If you're looking to add a wonderful companion to your family, please consider meeting Twix. She deserves a loving home of her own. ❤️🐶

ITS MAZIE MONDAY!!

If sweetness had a face, it would be Mazie’s.

Mazie isn’t just a good dog — she’s the kind of dog people write stories about. The kind who greets every single day like it’s the best day of her life simply because she gets to share it with you.

She truly loves everything and everyone. Dogs? Friends. Cats? Also friends. Kids? Her absolute favorite people on the planet. She doesn’t just tolerate children — she adores them. She leans in gently, follows them with soft eyes, and seems to understand that little humans are extra special.

Mazie is always ready for an adventure. A hike? Yes please. A walk around the neighborhood? Let’s go. A car ride with the windows cracked just enough to sniff the breeze? She’ll be your happy co-pilot. She rides beautifully in the car and walks like a dream on a leash, making her the easiest companion for whatever the day brings.

And when the adventure is over, she’s just as content to settle in close, soaking up love and giving it right back tenfold.

Mazie doesn’t just want a home — she wants a family to pour her whole heart into. And whoever is lucky enough to adopt her will quickly realize they didn’t just gain a dog… they gained the sweetest soul in the world.
