🌶 Things got pretty spicy for UWNCO Development Director Heath Ring when our community partners at Whirlpool Marion wrapped up their annual United Way Workplace Campaign with the plant Chili Cook-Off on Thursday, and he was at the front of the line!

Thank you to Heather, Whirlpool Marion's campaign coordinator, for her ingenuity and dedication in running a fun campaign with events that brought people together in support of the community, and to the generous employees who are making a bold impact in Marion County. 💙

Two of every five households in our five-county region can't afford their family's basic needs, living at or below the Federal Poverty Level or just above it as ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed). ALICE families are working, but can't earn enough to keep up with the local cost of living.

Our community impact partners are working to meet the immediate needs of families while helping to remove obstacles and forge paths to self-sufficiency for everyone in the region. Visit unitedwaynco.org to learn more.

Some of the UWNCO team took a road trip to Chillicothe on Wednesday, for a meeting of Ohio United Ways. We enjoyed meeting our counterparts from other UW organizations, and participated in interactive state and worldwide United Way updates. We also learned about some valuable new Ohio ALICE and statewide United Way 211 tools and upgrades.

Thanks very much to United Way of Ross County for hosting us, and to Chillicothe Ross Chamber of Commerce for sharing all of the great things to do in the area (Grandpa Joe's Candy Shop, we promise we're coming back for you!)!

Legal Aid of Southeast and Central Ohio - LASCO has been a longtime UWNCO community impact partner in Marion County - and more recently in Morrow. Their Family Stability for Women program provides free legal services for women and their families facing domestic violence, housing instability, and income-related challenges. They also partner with local community organizations to provide trainings that help women understand, and exercise, their legal rights. United Way of North Central Ohio is happy to continue our support of this local legal resource with a 2026-2027 Community Impact Sustaining Grant.
