We are extremely excited by Clare Killman’s historic inauguration Tuesday to the Carbondale City Council. Killman is the first Trans person to serve on a city council in Illinois and she is one of only five Trans people now elected to office in Illinois. Killman’s inauguration is impactful for Carbondale, which has become a significant community of safety and refuge in Southern Illinois for folks seeking access to reproductive healthcare and gender-affirming healthcare that is otherwise limited, prohibited, or criminalized in their home states.

Killman will be a powerful voice for change and will inspire more Trans people to run for office in their communities. We know Trans people remain severely underrepresented in all levels of government. At this time when more than 700 anti-LGBTQ+ bills have been introduced in state capitols across the country in 2023, when the opponents of equality are working hard to take healthcare away from Trans people, when anti-Trans forces have tried to silence an elected Trans state legislator in Montana, we need many more Trans voices in rooms of power. Now more than ever.

Unfortunately, there will not be a Shades of Love meeting for the month of April. As of right I do not have the extra finances to cover food or my own transportation to the meeting. I will send out more updates when I get everything situated, but for this month I will not be able to host a meeting. I apologize for the inconvenience. I hope you all have a great day!

As right now I don't have a way to get to the office so the office door won't be able to open since locked. Unfortunately I am going to have to cancel today. The next meeting will be next month, on April 3rd. I should have my transportation issue figured out by then. I'm so sorry if I am inconveniencing you guys. If you need anything let me know!

The Shades of Love meeting for the month of March will be moved to Monday the 13th 5-6:30. I’m sorry for the late notice. It’s midterms right now so needless to say I am drowning in homework. As I’m the only person right now in terms of organizing, I do not have anyone who can come and run the meeting in place of me. I’m sorry for any inconvenience it may cause, but if possible i look forward to seeing you next Monday! Have a good day and be safe.

Good Afternoon! The Shades of Love meeting for the month of January will be on Monday the 9th 5-6:30. This month our meeting is on the second Monday of the month instead of the first. This time of year is super hectic for most! As well as a reminder that if Marion school is closed due to weather conditions, then our meeting will be postponed. I will let you all know if and when it’ll be rescheduled, if that has to happen due to snow and ice. I hope you all have a safe and happy new year’s weekend. See you on the 9th!

The Shades of Love meeting for the month of December will be on Monday the 5th, 5-6:30.

This is going to be our Holiday party! We will have games, prizes and food! Bring a white elephant gift to exchange if you can. (homemade or under $5) Those who don’t bring a gift to put in, I will have you covered! I plan on bringing some extras just in case. Bring a friend and maybe a game if you want and I hope to see you all there!!

The Shades of Love meeting for the month of October will be on Monday the 10th, 5-6:30. We decided that we would have it that day because it is a day most people will have off of school, so everyone will have more time to prepare their costumes. We will have games, a costume contest, music and snacks. I hope to see you all there!! 💀🎃👻

The Shades of Love meeting for the month of August is Monday the 1st 5pm-6:30. It’s about to be back to school time, so this month we’ll discuss our experiences as Lgbt+ people attending school, as well as ways to help not be so hard on yourself when it comes to education and school. You’re all smarter and brighter than you guys think, and I know things can get stressful this time of year but you’re never alone. I hope to see you all there!

The Shades of Love meeting for the month of July is going to be moved to Monday the 11th. I know a lot of people will be attending July 4th celebrations, so have fun and I will see you guys Monday the 11th 5pm-6:30. I have TONS of goodies to hand out that day, I have a lot of things from Stl pride for everyone. Have a good weekend and stay safe!
