🚗✨ Road Trip Success! A Huge Thank You to REVOLVS Salvage! ✨🚗

Today, the Creative Routes crew loaded up and hit the road to visit REVOLVS Salvage in search of cabinetry for our mobile art studio. Our original plan was to purchase a different set of cabinets we had seen online, but unfortunately they sold before we arrived.

Thankfully, that ended up being a blessing in disguise!

Heidi went above and beyond to help me (and my two little sidekicks 😅) navigate the massive warehouse and hunt for alternatives. She was incredibly friendly, patient, and knowledgeable, taking the time to understand what we needed and helping us explore options that would work in our tiny studio space.

In the end, we found a beautiful set of maple cabinets that were far nicer than I ever expected to find. Not only are they excellent quality, but they fit the studio perfectly and are helping bring our vision to life.

One of the things that has always been important to Creative Routes is finding ways to build this project thoughtfully and sustainably. As a small community organization, every dollar we save on construction is a dollar that can be reinvested into art supplies, programming, scholarships, and increasing access to therapeutic art experiences. Choosing thrifted, salvaged, and pre-loved materials helps us stretch our resources while reducing waste and giving quality materials a second life.

That's one of the reasons we were so excited to support REVOLVS. Their mission is centered around keeping usable materials out of landfills and making reuse accessible to the community. According to REVOLVS, their efforts have already helped divert more than 750 tons of usable materials from the landfill, preventing over 12,000 tons of CO2 equivalent emissions while putting those materials back into the hands of people who can use them. Their organization exists to "evolve the world's view of reuse" by reclaiming building materials and home goods that would otherwise be discarded.

As an art therapist, there's something especially meaningful about that idea. So much of my work is about helping people discover value, possibility, and new purpose in things that might otherwise be overlooked. Building our mobile studio with reclaimed materials feels like an extension of that philosophy—finding beauty and potential in what already exists and transforming it into something meaningful. 💜

If you're tackling a renovation, DIY project, tiny house build, studio build, or simply love giving quality materials a second life, I can't recommend REVOLVS enough. Their selection is incredible, their mission is inspiring, and their customer service made the entire experience memorable.

Thank you, Heidi and the entire REVOLVS team, for helping Creative Routes take another big step toward opening our doors. We can't wait to create, connect, and build community in a space that has been thoughtfully pieced together through creativity, sustainability, and a whole lot of reuse magic. 🎨♻️✨

☀️ Friendly summer reminder from Creative Routes! Warmer weather can affect how certain medications work in the body — especially those that impact hydration, sweating, or heat tolerance.

A few simple heat safety tips:
💧 Drink plenty of water
🧢 Take breaks in the shade or A/C
👕 Wear lightweight clothing
🌡️ Watch for signs of overheating like dizziness, nausea, or headaches

As the weather continues to improve in NE Wisconsin, make sure you know how your medications interact with heat and stay safe!☀️

I often remind people that art therapy is not about being “good” at art. The colors you choose, the marks you make, the materials you reach for, and the act of expressing yourself creatively can all support emotional processing, stress reduction, self-awareness, and healing.

You do not need to be artistic, talented, experienced, or even confident in your creativity to benefit from the creative process. Art therapy focuses on the experience of creating — not the final product. 🎨

So many people learned somewhere along the way that art had to look a certain way to have value. That if it wasn’t beautiful, polished, or impressive, it somehow “didn’t count.” But creativity does not have to be perfect to be meaningful! Sometimes the most important part is simply allowing yourself to begin.

If fear of making “bad art” has ever stopped you from creating, you are not alone. If you’ve been curious about art therapy or reconnecting with your creativity in a supportive, judgment-free space, Creative Routes Mobile Art Studio is here to help!
