Gotta love today's harvest photos from Devi, one of our more active raised bed managers, at the Oak Woodland Community Garden.

Here's a quote from Devy: "That's Red Turnips far left, 'small' white Daikon Radish, Yellow Radishes, and White Turnips. I'll probably put in Black mini Bokchoy, the Tatchoy, & Chinese mustard seeds collected last year, and that Red Stalked Chickory, soon."

Thank you Marina Girl Scout Troop 30502 and Marina Brownie Troop 35506 for all 21 of your volunteers who worked hard today shoveling out w**dy narrow-leaf iceplant (Conicosia) at Locke-Paddon Wetland Community Park today! It was an inspiration to watch these youth remove every single narrow-leaf iceplant we could find!

Thanks also to community volunteer leaders from Sustainable Marina (Jackie Gardner, Steve Lee, Elias Rodriguez, and Mike Cook) and Friends of Marina Parks (Gary Kresja, Jeff Markham, Cosette Moeller, and Jackie Gardner).

P.S. This was the 3rd volunteer event focused on this w**d at Locke-Paddon. May 17 and Aug. 22, 2025, Friends of Marina Parks and Santa Catalina High School (hosted by Sustainable Marina) had successful service events in the same location.

At the 2026 Marina Earth Day, April 18, another sweep of sprouting Conocosia will be one of the volunteer activities.

PUMP UP THE JAM ON YOUR SUNDAY!

Volunteers wanted for late afternoon community cleanup of "Salinas Ave Woods" in Marina, Sun. Feb. 23, 2025. 3pm-5pm
Many of you showed up Sun. Apr. 25, 2021, for the grand initial cleanup (29,000lbs!) of this Salinas Ave./Carmel Ave oak-wooded area. Volunteers have been maintaining it clean ever since!

Please consider joining us today for "spot" cleanups in the same area. Mainly a gentle stroll in a beautiful, gentle, open space area looking for stray litter.

One team with me will focus on the Reservation Rd corridor. This isn't as fun.

Steve Lee's team (slackers!) will pick up odds and ends of litter/camp debris in the interior of the woods. Really beautiful maritime chaparral and oak woodland.

Meet 3pm near corner of Salinas Ave and Reservation Rd at 496 Marsan Circle.

Parking near the MCWD well site but not blocking their access gates, and on residential streets nearby.

Feel free to contact me at 277-7690 if you have questions. thanks everyone, Bruce p.s. maintenance is key, tho not glamorous, to keep progress going!

very cool!

Wierd object illegally dumped on Lapis Rd north of Marina.
Much effort now being made to issue citations to dumpers.
Since Jan. 2017 monthly volunteers have been removing trash and dumping from Beach Rd in town to Hwy 1 north of town (by the landfill).

For now, if you see someone dumping try to get license plate and call 9-1-1 (who should inform County dept of environmental health and CHP or city for this area depending on location).

Its acorn time, a joyous time!
Best acorn production in the Monterey Bay area in the last several years. These nuts are dropping starting about 10 days ago. The next few weeks they will be dropping in mass everywhere as they have these last few days at the MoCo Fairgrounds.

We'll be collecting on Fort Ord the next few weeks for native oak tree planting projects around town. If you would like to join volunteers to do this to keep your acorns or to contribute them to Citizens for Sustainable Marina for a good cause let me know!

For now, just appreciate that wildlife and oak trees are happy for this year's good acorn crop!

Of course life is good and precious and it's made more so when community comes together to make the world a healthier and more beautiful place. Today's volunteers and volunteer leaders planted 300 local native wildflower plants outside Marina Library for humans to enjoy natural beauty and for nature (humming birds, bumblebees, and butterflies) to be able to thrive around us and support us.

Thank you everyone!
