Particularly Correct - The Shock wave road the Cone just ahead of the Inlet, while it did slow the air down some - it mainly superheated the inlet air to support self combustion of the fuel bc JP-7 had an extremely high ignition temperature to keep it safe in the tanks at high speed created heat.
There were also By-pass piping (4 large tunes on the outside of the engine) around the combustion chamber that pumped into the exhaust system which allow for the After-Burners to work properly with fresh air.
