Stigma can stop people from asking for help.

When someone feels ashamed, judged, or dismissed, they may avoid seeking treatment or support altogether. Negative experiences with healthcare providers can make it even harder for people to reach out when they need help most.

Compassion and understanding can make a bigger difference than we realize. Everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and supported when seeking care.

Men account for the majority of fatal overdoses in Marin County and across California. Many are employed and work across a wide range of industries.

Men are also more likely to avoid seeking help or talking openly about substance use, which can increase the risk of overdose.

One proven way to reduce overdose deaths is avoiding using alone. If you are using alone, the Never Use Alone Line (877-696-1996) offers free, confidential support to help keep you safe. 💙

This May is Move Your Body, Calm Your Mind Month. 💙

Slowing down, even briefly, can help you feel more balanced, present, and better equipped to cope with everyday stress. Supporting your mental health through small daily habits can also play an important role in substance use prevention and recovery by encouraging healthier ways to manage emotions and challenges.

Take a moment and share it with someone who might need it too.

fear stops many people from calling 911 during an overdose emergency, but the Good Samaritan Law offers legal protection when someone calls for help in good faith.

your call could protect a friend, family member, neighbor, or someone in your community. prevention starts with awareness, education, and knowing what to do in an emergency.

Addiction does not look the same for everyone.

One of the biggest stigmas around substance use disorder is the belief that it only affects people who are unhoused or unemployed. But through the work of OD Free Marin and years of research, we’ve learned that addiction impacts people across all socioeconomic backgrounds, races, and communities.

No one is immune.

In Marin, many of the lives lost were young people from affluent families, which challenged harmful stereotypes and revealed an important truth: addiction does not discriminate. These stories have helped open conversations, reduce stigma, and remind us that compassion and understanding matter. 💙

Reflecting on this meaningful event with Marin Musical Theatre Company 💙

Through theater, education, and community connection, we had the opportunity to share overdose prevention resources and distribute naloxone while opening important conversations around harm reduction and stigma.

The themes of the musical opened important conversations around community awareness, stigma, support, and harm reduction. Spaces like this help bring people together, encourage learning, and highlight the importance of naloxone access in building safer communities.

Thank you to MMTC for helping amplify these important conversations and supporting community education through the arts.

Mental health affects more people than we often realize, and the way we speak to others can make a real difference.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we wanted to highlight the importance of compassion, support, and open conversations 💙

Small actions like checking in, listening without judgment, encouraging professional help, or simply reminding someone they are not alone can have a lasting impact.

Asking for help is strength, not weakness.

If you or someone you know is looking for support, resources are available.

Looking back on this incredible day at the One Stride 5K 💗👟

From crossing the finish line together to connecting with community organizations, the event was filled with hope, support, and meaningful conversations around mental health and recovery.

We loved seeing families, friends, and community members come together to walk, run, and support one another. We also enjoyed pancakes, community booths, fun activities, and spending time with everyone throughout the day 🥞☀️

Thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, and helped make this event so special. Every step taken helps build a stronger, more connected community.

💕 Stay tuned and see you next year!
