The Two Pillars of the Kingdom: Love God, Love People (Part II — The Power of Charity)
Text: 1 Corinthians 13:1–3
Supporting Text: Matthew 22:37–40
Theme: Love is the essence of God’s nature and the foundation of all true faith and ministry.
Paul’s Reminder: Gifts Without Love Are Empty
“Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.” — 1 Corinthians 13:1
• Paul writes to a gifted church — the Corinthians — who had prophecy, tongues, knowledge, and zeal.
• Yet, he warns them: spiritual power without spiritual love is hollow.
• Eloquence, anointing, or miracles mean nothing if love is absent.
• Many can speak for God, but few love like God.
💡 True ministry is not how loud we preach, but how deeply we love.
Connection to Jesus’ Commandments
• Jesus said: “Love God… Love your neighbor.”
• Paul said: “Without love, I am nothing.”
Together, they show that love is the essence of the Kingdom.
Every commandment, every prophecy, every act of faith — all hang upon love.
💡 The Law points to love. The Gospel perfects love. The Spirit empowers love.
The Nature of Charity — What Love Looks Like (vv. 4–7)
Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up…
• Love is patient — it endures offenses.
• Love is kind — it responds with grace, not revenge.
• Love is humble — it doesn’t seek the spotlight.
• Love rejoices in truth — not in others’ failures.
• Love never fails — it outlasts prophecies, tongues, and knowledge.
🕊️ Where gifts cease, love continues.
The Sacrifice Without Love — “It Profits Me Nothing”
“Though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.” — 1 Corinthians 13:3
• Acts of giving, service, or even martyrdom mean nothing without love.
• God measures not the size of our gift, but the sincerity of our heart.
• You can give everything and still gain nothing — if it’s not done in love.
💧 Love purifies every sacrifice; without it, even good deeds lose eternal value.
Conclusion
Without love, I am nothing; with love, I reflect Christ.
Love is not just a feeling — it’s a choice, a command, and the character of Christ Himself.
When we love God with all our heart and love others as ourselves, we fulfill all the Law and the Prophets.
💖 “Let all that you do be done in charity.” — 1 Corinthians 16:14
