A step in the right direction.

This week, the DOJ reasserted its focus on the fight against child s*x trafficking.

On June 17, the Department of Justice named a seasoned prosecutor to the National Coordinator for Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking role and gave a 120-day deadline to deliver a report on how they are doing. That kind of structural focus is how a federal commitment turns into real protection for children.

The Department has appointed Alessandra Serano—a prosecutor with more than two decades fighting trafficking and exploitation—to lead the effort. The federal government has a decisive role to play here. When the DOJ treats child s*x trafficking as a coordinated national priority, it changes what's possible for survivors and for the communities working to protect kids every day.

Shared Hope International welcomes this step. For decades we've worked to make sure survivors are seen and protected—and we're ready to support a strategy that does the same.
