This finding will not surprise anyone who has spent time inside a peer recovery community rather than reading about one from the outside: recovery rarely looks like a straight line, and it rarely looks the same from one person to the next.

At The Zone, Davis Direction Foundation's peer recovery support center in Marietta, the people walking through the door are not sorted into a single track. Some are early in abstinence and building a foundation day by day. Others are managing a substance use disorder while reducing harm, working toward goals that look different from complete and immediate abstinence but are no less serious an attempt at a healthier life. Still others are years into recovery and come back simply to stay connected to community.
