Fields of Boaz Our MIssion:

Mission
Fields of Boaz is an international, inter-denominational Christian ministry dedicated to using the Arts as powerful catalysts for good.

We have three main projects:

• We help impoverished young people in developing countries who would otherwise drop out of school to be able to complete their education and prepare for a trade or profession.
• We assist indigenous women through their handicrafts and use the arts as a door to developing a relationship with Christ. The income from their handicrafts helps create additional educatio

nal scholarships.
• We provide migrant workers in the United States with information, advocacy, a 1-800 hot line and are presently preparing a site similar to Angie's List that will help hold both employers of migrants and brokers accountable.

Hi Friends of Fields,

Back a number of years ago, I had a logo made especially for our outreach to artisan women in Ruiz, Mexico. We named the outreach, "She Gleans". (My friend Ben Austin's idea!) However, because of the unrest in Mexico, my visits finally dwindled and communication with my artisan friends became difficult.

Today, although the situation in Mexico persists, new avenues for mentoring our artisan friends in Ruiz, and in other Latin American countries are opening up. That includes our immigrant communities in the United States. So, I'm bringing "She Gleans" back!

My first goal is to develop workshops. Their purpose will be to help the women recognize their own unique God-given creativity and and enable them to prosper as entrepreneurs.

I'm also using my art work and other creative endeavors to provide for different projects as the Lord opens doors.

You are welcome to join me on my journey!

Sherry

MISSION TRIP TO CHINANDEGA, NICARAGUA

I’m excited to be leaving for Chinandega, Nicaragua the 29th of this month and am looking forward to all that the Lord is going to during the 4 weeks that I am there! Chinandega is the name of a province as well as the name of its capital city. It’s a fascinating province that features historic towns, beaches, mangroves and a string of volcanos, some of which remain active. Young Life Area Youth Leaders, Manuel Gadea Kuant, his wife Rosi Ortega will be my hosts and I can’t wait to see them again after many years. Their children were small when I last saw them at the Vida Joven retreat up in the rain forests above Matagalpa! While I am there, I will be establishing the infrastructure necessary to sponsor more young people in desperate need of an education as well as ministering to the youth and their families. I will also be distributing “messengers” (amazing solar-powered audio devices) that present the gospel of John and basic teachings of our faith. These were a generous donation from In Touch Ministry. In addition, I’ll be bringing reading glasses for those in need and wonderful testimony booklets by Mauricio Rodriquez; who was born in Nicaragua. Mexican Vendors who are friends of mine at the Atlanta Farmers Market were glad to help by becoming sponsors.
They also were eager to purchase the Huichol jewelry and went to get their friends. One of their clients even made a
purchase! I sold 75% of everything that I had left. That will help us sponsor even more students.

One of our sponsored students, Mariano, graduated from CECYTEN High School in Ruiz, Mexico this July. He told me that he hopes to get his certification in Public Security, but first he plans to work for a year to help his older brother José finish the courses needed to get his certification.

That's nothing more and nothing less than true brotherly love.

If you watched the infomercial where the funny little fellow ends up hanging from the last flag, you learned that Mexico's literacy status is at the very bottom according to OECD statistics. In spite of the grim statistics "Granitos de Arena", the children's reading club that we began back in 2005 is still going strong! Thanks to "Nacha" Gomez, Preschool and Kindergarten teachers in El Vado are emphasizing reading. Parents are attending Reading Workshops that she has organized and due to popular demand, she hopes to bring Granitos de Arena Storytime back on the air (a ten minute slot), this time from Nayarit's capital, Tepic.
We want to continue our support of this wonderful project that the Lord has blessed. First, by providing Nacha with great storybooks that stress Biblical values and secondly, by being one of Granitos sponsors (not publicized) on the air. If you'd like to help Nacha, you can buy storybooks in Spanish on Amazon (We have suggested titles for you if wish) and you can donate to air-time expense. Write me at [email protected] and I 'll be glad to answer any questions!

Go to http://www.fieldsofboaz.org/2013/05/23/mexican-education-infomercial/ to watch a great little infomercial about Mexico's literacy status and also get a link to the OECD report. It's all on our new Website!

Educators all around the world have challenges just like we do here in the United States. This short and clever infomercial points out that Mexican Education is the lowest among other countries b...
