Rotary Club of East Cobb Rotary District 6900 held our final meeting of the Rotary 2025/2026 fiscal year this morning.
It was a fantastic meeting of Transition as we said a heartfelt THANK YOU to outgoing President Liz Kochman Myers and her Board for an amazing year of "Unite for Good" and WELCOMED incoming President Benjamin Alper who originally joined looking for criminals to represent and build his practice but instead, found strong and lasting friendships! Looking go to a new year to "Create Lasting Impact"!
Whitney Higdon did a wonderful job greeting everyone this morning as Rotarian of the Week! We were so thrilled to see our great friend and Rotarian Fred Hanna back this morning. We love you and missed you dear friend!
Congratulations to each of the following Rotarians:
1) Rookie Rotarian of the Year was awarded to Whitney Higdon for jumpinv right in and making a tremendous impact!
2) Rotarian of the Year was Andy Wong who served as our Treasurer as soon as he joined our club, and assumed the defacto role as publicity chair in addition to jump into our club's service projects!
3) Congrats to Andrew Wiseman on the birth of his 7th grandchild, Anna Marie! Some people have been very busy.
4) We are sad to see Brad Groff leave us as a member but are so happy for him as he slowly eased into a future retirement in Athens, GA. As you all know, Brad has been our club's Polio cure championš. We hope to still see Brad as long term friendships remain.
Upcoming service projects and opportunities for all to come and support include:
1) Searching for a host for this year's GRSP student from Sierra Leone. She is currently a rising senior at KSU and has a car to help with logistics. GRSP will kick off in August at the Conclave in Savannah! Reach out to Aaron Strimban for more information and to volunteer.
2) Adopt a Mile cleanup along Johnson Ferry Rd is this Saturday morning. It's rewarding work building fellowship and chapter community exposure at the same time. Reach out to Jim Flowers to get plugged in; you won't get shocked!
3) Serving dinner at The Women's Extension is coming up next Tuesday evening 06/30 at 5:30pm. Thanks to Sue Marshall for chairing this and for getting Sidelines Grill to generously provide the meal!
4) Dog Days Run is just a bit over a month away on Saturday morning, August 8. We still need SPONSORS and RUNNERS to ensure the success of this 21st Annual event. Please reach out to any potential sponsors for this outstanding community event!
Remember, we are dark next Wednesday as our country celebrated it's 250th birthday on July 4th! We will be back the following Wednesday and feel free to dress patriotically for that meeting. I am confident that Joe Murphey will set a great example; who else is in?
Thank you all for a great year and heard looking forward to an even better 2026/2027!
