Now that the dust has settled from our first ever Parkersburg Pride Pageant, we’d like to recognize the inspirational person who kickstarted the idea to begin with. Before Saturday, Lucy Lipps had reigned as Miss Parkersburg Pride for nine years. Although her roots run deeper than just nine years with our community, her time spent as Miss Parkersburg Pride was something unparalleled. Truly the heart and soul of every event, Lucy never fails in her role as both an entertainer and a role model. Whether it’s cracking the best jokes as MC at Pride Bingo, or inspiring us with words of encouragement at Pridefest, or even cooking the best hotdog sauce this side of the Appalachian mountains, one thing is clear: Lucy Lipps loves her community, and they love her, too. Further past the limits of Parkersburg, Lucy has represented her title throughout West Virginia and beyond. She even secured the prestigious state title of Miss Rainbow Pride of West Virginia…and yet, she never lost her way from the community she started in. Even though her reign has come to an end, we know Lucy will continue her legacy as a board member of Parkersburg Pride, as an entertainer in our beautiful state of West Virginia, and as a friend to any soul who needs one. Thank you for all that you’ve done, Lucy Lipps!
