Save Our Saluda (SOS) was founded in 2008 in response to threats facing the Saluda River and works in cooperation with partnering organization to implement restoration and protection projects, to advocate for local, state, and national policies that protect water quality and sustainable river flows, and to safeguard water resources in the Upper Saluda Watershed. The Saluda River originates from he
adwaters of the South Saluda River near Table Rock, the Middle Saluda River near Caesar’s Head and Jones Gap, and the North Saluda River above Poinsett Reservoir. The three rivers join above Saluda Lake and flow downstream over six hydroelectric dams to join the Reedy River at Lake Greenwood. The Upper Saluda Watershed encompasses parts of seven Upstate counties and municipal areas of Marietta, Travelers Rest, Greenville, Powdersville, Piedmont, Mauldin, Simpsonville, Fountain Inn, Williamston, Belton, Honea Path, and Ware Shoals, and other smaller communities.
