Tame the Kraken

Tame the Kraken Rowing 2,400+ nautical miles of the Pacific from CA to HI in 2025 for Veterans Mental Health 🚣🏻🦑🌊

Tame the Kraken is a 501(c)3 organization committed to raising awareness for veterans' mental health and establishing Row to Recovery, a recreational therapy rowing program designed to support veterans, their families, and communities impacted by mental health challenges. Our journey began in 2018, when founder Tim Crockett rowed solo across the Atlantic Ocean—a 3,000 nautical mile challenge—to ra

ise awareness and funds for veterans' mental health charities in both the UK and the US. That first solo row ignited a mission to help others "Tame their Kraken" and marked the beginning of what has grown into an even more ambitious goal. In June of 2025, the Tame the Kraken team—led by Tim and his son, Harrison—set out to complete the Pacific Row and be the first father & son team to do so. Over the course of 47 days, 12 hours, and 53 minutes, the team rowed 2,400 nautical miles from California to Hawaii, setting a world record and further amplifying the conversation around veterans' mental health. With the completion of the Pacific Row, the focus now shifts to the continued growth of Row to Recovery. Funds raised from this expedition will go towards establishing rowing programs across the United States, starting with the Southeast. These programs are designed to provide therapeutic, community-building opportunities for veterans, their families, and communities impacted by mental health challenges. At Tame the Kraken, we believe in the power of resilience, community, and the therapeutic benefits of rowing. We’re grateful for your support in making waves for veterans' mental health and continuing this mission. Join us as we row toward recovery and help make a real difference. 🌊

Who would have thought that 5 years later H would be rowing under that same iconic bridge and into the record books as the youngest person to row the Pacific 🦑

Harrison, you’ve rowed the vast Pacific—and more importantly, you’ve rowed through all the challenges by just being yourself. As Kipling said in *If*:

“If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same...”

You faced every wave with courage and heart, not just crossing an ocean but living your truth. Here’s to your strength, your spirit, and always staying *you*. Proud of you, always! 🌊🚣‍♂️✨

We’ve officially wrapped filming for the film documenting our Pacific Row this past summer! Huge thanks to the co-founders of for making the trip to GA for our fireside chat—sharing stories, fellowship, and of course… plenty of bourbon 🥃.

So much more to come—stay tuned for the full journey! 🚣🏻🦑🌊

What he said - over the coming weeks we'll be updating y'all more on the Row to Recovery Program/s and how you can get involved and participate. We are still recovery here back at home in Atlanta, but yes I have been back on the water with the ARC Veterans & Adaptive Programs!! 🐙

When Tim is not living in an ocean rowing boat in the middle of the Pacific, he lives in a house in Atlanta, almost like a normal person! 🏠

Whilst in Atlanta, he volunteers at the Atlanta Rowing Club, where he's able to support veterans with disabilities, and provide a unique opportunity to explore adaptive rowing. 🩵

And it's this part of Tim's life that inspired the Row To Recovery mission. 💪

The physical act of rowing has tangible effects on the body, such as lowering blood pressure, boosting cardiovascular health, and strengthening the whole body and immune system. But also that repetitive process of pulling on the oars, allows the rower to be absolutely focused on the present - not thinking about anything else, other than the timing of the strokes. 🚣‍♂️

The program also aims to combine this with the powerful effects of meditation, an activity that can alleviate muscle tension, reduce inflammation, and lower the risk of chronic illnesses, with low-impact exercise that stimulates every muscle in the body, the cardiovascular, respiratory, and metabolic systems. 🧠

When you combine these physical and mental aspects, with a man that is both a special forces veteran and a multiple ocean rower...you have something incredibly powerful and therapeutic, to all those that access the service. 🙌
