On September 11, 2001, our nation experienced a tragedy that forever changed the course of historyβand forever shaped the public safety community.
Today, 25 years later, we pause to remember the 2,977 lives lost, the families who never got to say goodbye, the survivors who carry that day with them, and the countless lives forever changed.
We honor the firefighters, EMS professionals, law enforcement officers, dispatchers, emergency managers, healthcare workers, military personnel, and everyday citizens who responded with extraordinary courage in the face of unimaginable circumstances.
That day, uniforms and titles did not matter. Agencies and jurisdictions did not matter. People simply answered the call to help one another.
For the public safety community, βNever Forgetβ carries a special responsibility. It means remembering those who gave everything in service to others. It means honoring those who continued to serve in the days, months, and years that followed. And it means carrying forward the courage, unity, compassion, and commitment to service that emerged from one of our nationβs darkest days.
A generation has now grown up knowing September 11 only through the stories we tell.
It is our responsibility to keep telling them.
We remember the lives lost.
We honor those who served.
We stand with the families who still carry their loss.
And we will never forget.
