Thank you to everyone who joined the Captain John Collins Chapter meeting on June 16 at Hudson’s Grill in Kennesaw. Together we enjoyed an evening of fellowship and shared patriotism, strengthened by greetings from Effie Pike of the Elijah Winn Children of the American Revolution, which underscored our close partnership in promoting patriotic education among younger generations. We were also treated to an outstanding program by Compatriot Bill Coffeen, who presented “Thomas Paine: Forever the Optimist — Before, During, and After the American Revolution,” giving members fresh insight into Paine’s enduring influence on American liberty and the ideals we continue to uphold as a chapter.

📖 May Program Recap: "The Georgia Frontier During the Revolutionary War"

At our May 19, 2026 chapter meeting, we were treated to a fascinating and informative program by guest speaker Mr. Eli Stancel, who presented on "The Georgia Frontier During the Revolutionary War."

Mr. Stancel holds a B.A. from Piedmont College and an M.A. from Arkansas State University, and has published numerous articles covering topics including War of 1812 forts, history of the frontier, and more. He is a 24-year employee of Norfolk Southern Railway and resides in Bostwick, Georgia with his family.

His program gave our members a vivid look at the challenges faced by settlers and patriots on the Georgia frontier during the Revolution — a vital but often overlooked chapter of the war for independence.

A Certificate of Appreciation was presented to Mr. Stancel by President Jim Poole and Vice President Jason Shepherd on behalf of the chapter.

Thank you, Mr. Stancel, for a wonderful and educational evening! 🇺🇸

🎉 May 16, 2026 is officially Captain John Collins Day in Cobb County!

At Saturday's grave marking ceremony at Mars Hill Cemetery in Acworth, Cobb County Commissioner Keli Gambrill presented a proclamation formally recognizing May 16, 2026, as Captain John Collins Day — honoring the Revolutionary War service of the man who helped shape the history of our region.

Captain Collins fought at Briar Creek, King's Mountain, Jamestown, and Yorktown before settling in what is now Cobb County, where he is buried at Mars Hill Cemetery. His legacy lives on through our chapter and through the community he helped build.

We are deeply grateful to Commissioner Gambrill and Cobb County for this meaningful and historic recognition. 🇺🇸

🗽 Honoring 250 Years of American Freedom

As our nation counts down to its 250th anniversary of independence in 2026, the Captain John Collins Chapter is proud to have dedicated an America 250 marker at the gravesite of Captain John Collins at Mars Hill Cemetery in Acworth, Georgia.

This marker stands as a lasting tribute to Captain Collins's courage and sacrifice during the American Revolution — and as a reminder to our community of the principles and ideals that our founders fought to establish.

We are grateful to everyone who joined us on May 16 to make this dedication a reality, including SAR and NSDAR compatriots, local officials, community members, and the descendants of Captain Collins himself.

The story of American freedom is written in moments like these. 🇺🇸
