The Washington County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society meets monthly to share information about our ancestors and their origins, local historical topics and how to locate ones ancestors. We also provide a public informational website, a list of regional sources for purchase, and a free quarterly newsletter for members.

The Peter Howe Family Story
Speaker: Jim Reed

Peter Howe was a Revolutionary war soldier from Vermont who brought his family to Marietta in 1801 and settled on the east side of the Muskingum about 4 miles from Marietta. In later life he moved to Ames Township. and lived with one of his sons. His family story was written down in a small book named “Grandma Trowbridge Little Story.” She was one of his daughters. She wrote it when she was 87 yrs. old. It told of his time in the Revolution, life in Vermont, the family’s trip from Vermont, and life in Ohio. It gave insight into a family’s everyday life in early Ohio.
