Every year, we’re reminded that our fight against cancer is personal.
This year, we’re dedicating our fundraising efforts to Lee Ann Tanks.
She dedicated 24 years to Cobb County DPS. In 2022, Lee Ann was diagnosed with breast cancer. She shared her journey of countless doctor visits, multiple surgeries, rounds of chemotherapy, hospital stays, and endless trips for fluids and treatment. This was
a grueling fight she met with courage and faith. Sadly, on June 7, 2025, after more than three years of perseverance, she passed away leaving behind a legacy of service, strength, love and hope.
The Tanks family has even deeper ties to Cobb Fire. Her husband, William “Bill” Tanks (“Willy” to many of us 😊), also rose through the ranks of Cobb County Fire, retiring as a Deputy Chief after a 26-year career.
Bill and Lee Ann dedicated half a century of their lives to Cobb County Public Safety. They stood shoulder-to-shoulder with many of us and served the citizens. Together, their contributions are woven into the very fabric and history of the department we are
all a part of.
Now it is our turn to honor her. We are launching a limited-edition
Breast
Cancer Awareness T-Shirt in Lee Ann’s memory. 100% of the proceeds will go to the
Georgia Alliance for Breast Cancer, helping provide resources, support, and funding to fight for the cure. They’re also hosting a 2-day walk to raise awareness.
By dedicating this fundraiser to Lee Ann, we stand united—for her, and for every member of our fire service family who has come face-to-face with this disease. Cancer has invaded our lives and this fundraiser is our way of helping stop the spread. It’s our way of staying in the fight.
