If you are wondering what happened in regards to the last election for the board of directors, quorum was not met. That means not enough members voted to have an election. In order to meet quorum, 168 lot owners must vote. In other words, 10%. There were approximately 98 ballots cast. What happens now? The currently seated board will retain their seats for another year.

Here's what won't happen. Niether this page nor any of the members vying for seats will file complaints or make false accusations towards the current board or management company. This will be a big departure from what, Randy, Mark, Nick, and Noaimi did when we last did not reach quorum.

They all or in part filed AZDRE complaints or started recall elections or against the board. None of which succeeded. All of which cost you money. Beyond that some of them made constant inflammatory posts often of an ugly personal nature.

Though some may consider pointing these facts out a case of the pot calling the kettle black, it is not. It is nothing more than useful information for you the membership.

A little fun reading on a Sunday morning.

On this day (January 23) in 1957, machines at the Wham-O toy company roll out the first batch of their aerodynamic plastic discs—now known to millions of fans all over the world as Frisbees.

The story of the Frisbee began in Bridgeport, Connecticut, where William Frisbie opened the Frisbie Pie Company in 1871. Students from nearby universities would throw the empty pie tins to each other, yelling “Frisbie!” as they let go. In 1948, Walter Frederick Morrison and his partner Warren Franscioni invented a plastic version of the disc called the “Flying Saucer” that could fly further and more accurately than the tin pie plates. After splitting with Franscioni, Morrison made an improved model in 1955 and sold it to the new toy company Wham-O as the “Pluto Platter”–an attempt to cash in on the public craze over space and Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs).

In 1958, a year after the toy’s first release, Wham-O—the company behind such top-sellers as the Hula-Hoop, the Super Ball and the Water Wiggle—changed its name to the Frisbee disc, misspelling the name of the historic pie company. A company designer, Ed Headrick, patented the design for the modern Frisbee in December 1967, adding a band of raised ridges on the disc’s surface–called the Rings–to stabilize flight. By aggressively marketing Frisbee-playing as a new sport, Wham-O sold over 100 million units of its famous toy by 1977.

High school students in Maplewood, New Jersey, invented Ultimate Frisbee, a cross between football, soccer and basketball, in 1967. In the 1970s, Headrick himself invented Frisbee Golf, in which discs are tossed into metal baskets; there are now hundreds of courses in the U.S., with millions of devotees. There is also Freestyle Frisbee, with choreographed routines set to music and multiple discs in play, and various Frisbee competitions for both humans and dogs–the best natural Frisbee players.

Today, at least 60 manufacturers produce the flying discs—generally made out of plastic and measuring roughly 20-25 centimeters (8-10 inches) in diameter with a curved lip. The official Frisbee is owned by Mattel Toys, who bought the toy from Wham-O in 1994.

If you haven't had a chance yet to vote, please take a moment to do so. All lot owners should have already received a ballot in the mail. If not you can vote electronically on the cityproperty.com page. The ballot is on the second page of their portal.

This board has done a couple of things this year that while not probably unethical are most likely self serving. In years past we hosted a candidate forum where every home owner could meet, listen to, and question candidates. This year, the entirely new board, a board made up of people who constantly crowed about 'transparency ' chose not to do so.

Why? Because they know their actions, or more to the point, inactions, would be shown in the full light of day. They also know that their false statements about their neighbors would be shown to be the lies they are.

One final note. While some of the candidates had their reasons for running retyped on the ballots, others did not. Just a screen shot of their written submissions.

Was this an attempt by City Property to undermine some candidates in favor of others? Who knows? But we won't get a chance to ask them in public.

So why even do this? Why run for a seat on the board of directors?
I'll tell you my reasons. At least my reasons for doing it now.
For years good people worked hard to make the Meadows a better place. To make it what I once described it as. "High quality living at an affordable price." A place where people could feel good about themselves and their decision to live here. A place where everyone, from retirees to young families could feel at home.
That's why, during my brief time on the board I paid so much attention to our park. Why I instituted a parking program that reminded people that they may be in violation without fining them.
My hope was that once I was no longer on the board, good people who cared about our community would follow. Sadly that has not been the case.
The community is in disrepair. The current board is engaged, when their engaged at all, in acting on old grievances and grudges.
Our streets are littered with junk cars, our green spaces in many places are dying. They can't even get the holiday lights down in a timely manner.
I was once asked what I wanted for our community. This was my answer. " After fighting traffic on the 347, I wanted folks to turn the corner and be able to let out a sigh of relief, and their shoulders relax, knowing they has made it home to the best place they ever lived." I don't think a lot of people feel that way anymore. I don't. And that's why I'm running again.
Thanks.
Tony Vicich.

Mark Peterson and Southwest Airlines.
Over the holidays tens of thousands of people found themselves sleeping in airline terminals instead of celebrating with loved ones. It was a truly sad and avoidable situation.
Once the dust settled the reason for this travesty became clear. For years Southwest refused to invest in infrastructure. They were using the sane antiquated systems to schedule planes and personnel. Instead of investing in their business they kept paying dividends to stockholders. Now most of that dividend may be lost in lawsuits and lost reputation.
Southwest isn't the only entity to think this way. For years short term gain and short sighted managers have only worried about short term gain.
That brings us to Mr. Peterson. Mark is running for your board after years of claiming theft which has been disproven and constant name calling. A casual perusal of other social media pages shows Mark calling out his neighbors as thieves and "human cockroaches." While that alone should disqualify him from serving on a board of directors, this is a more serious matter.
Mark has been on the board before, during his tenure you would be hard pressed to find a single project needed to keep Maricopa Meadows beautiful and safe. Whether it is lighting, walking paths, playgrounds, improved irrigation, you name it, Mark has opposed it.
When the Meadows was built, it was barely built. The developers did the bare minimum to get their permits and make their profits. As new developments constantly spring up around us, it is important to keep the Meadows safe, modern and beautiful. We have to invest in existing infrastructure and develop news ones. This won't happen with Mark on the board.
If he wins none of us will have to sleep in an airport terminal. But if he wins sleeping in an airport terminal might be more pleasant than living in the Meadows.
How's your property values?
