Wastewater Wednesday

This week’s spotlight: the influent headworks auger.

Located at the front end of a wastewater treatment plant, the headworks is the first stop for incoming sewer flow. The auger plays a critical role by removing inorganic materials like rags, wipes, plastics, and debris before they can damage pumps and downstream equipment.

Removing these materials early in the process protects the entire treatment system and reduces costly maintenance and downtime.

It may not be glamorous but it’s one of the most important lines of defense in wastewater treatment.

Wastewater Wednesday

Have you ever seen a sewer fogger in action?

This equipment releases a safe, non-toxic smoke into the sewer system to help identify leaks, cracks, and illegal connections. If smoke escapes from the ground, storm drains, or other unexpected places, it tells operators exactly where repairs may be needed.

Fun fact: Smoke testing is one of the most efficient ways to locate inflow and infiltration issues, helping prevent excess rainwater from overwhelming wastewater systems.

It might look dramatic, but it’s a smart and proactive tool that keeps systems running efficiently.

Our Wastewater tech assist small systems with this tool, reach out to learn more!
