HOW TO OBSERVE "I WANT YOU TO BE HAPPY DAY"

- Start the day with a happy thought and carry it with you throughout the day.
- Make someone smile. Give a flower or tell a silly knock-knock joke there.
- Buy the person's coffee standing in line behind you.
- Remind your kids how much you love them.
- Leave a sticky note for a co-worker telling them to have a spectacular day, a happy day.
- Draw a happy face in the snow for a stranger to come across later. Give someone a hug.
- Consider someone else's happiness from their point of view.
- Invite a friend to volunteer with you using JustServe.org to find a project. Here's one to consider:

According to research from the Journal of American Board of Family Medicine, approximately 4% of Americans self-harm, with a majority of those being college students. Self-injury Awareness Day aims to help friends and family recognize the signs and help those in emotional distress find help. Help and support can be found, though.

Self-injury occurs in many forms, including cutting, scratching, punching, and ingestion of chemicals. Those who self-harm do so for a variety of reasons. Some of them include coping with fear, stress, anxiety, or inducing positive feelings.

People who self-injure may try to hide their injuries. Their clothing may not fit the season. Other signs may include:

- unexplained cuts, burns, or bruises
- inability to handle emotions
- avoiding relationships
- problems with relationships
- issues at work, home, or school
- poor self-esteem

Resources and support are available to help understand and treat self-injury. Seeking a professional consultation is an essential first step.

Paper flowers count for , right?

Here's a project where create paper or tissue flowers for Mother's Day.

These flowers will be given to seniors in nursing homes, domestic violence shelters, cancer hospitals and those who could just use a lift.

Please make them in a "bunch" and wrap them together in tissue paper- similar to how you'd purchase flowers in a store, to make distributing easy. No glitter please. We do not have a specific size, color or pattern for you to use. We love the variety that gets donated. Pinterest has lots of great ideas to get you started.

It's : check those emergency flashlights and make sure your batteries still work!

If you're the kind of person who doesn't need this reminder, you're probably the kind of volunteer needed for the City of Maricopa’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).

CERT is a dedicated team of trained volunteers committed to equipping fellow citizens with the skills needed to manage any disaster or emergency. The team provides essential capabilities during local emergencies and at special events, enhancing the community's safety and durability.

Through the CERT Basic Training Courses and public outreach efforts, Maricopa's CERT team is committed to building a resilient community, prepared to face any disaster.

The CERT Basic Training Course is central to CERT’s mission. The course provides citizens with vital disaster response skills, covering areas such as fire safety, search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Upon completion of the training, participants will be well equipped to assist their community during emergencies until public safety responders arrive.

The City of Maricopa CERT team hosts this course several times annually and will also accommodate requests for community organizations interested in the course. The next course begins March 2.
