Marfa Soup
Marfa Soup is a micro-granting dinner celebrating and supporting creative projects in Marfa, Texas that serve to benefit the city and our residents. It's neighbors showing support to neighbors and soup.
So the basic premise is that for a small suggested donation of $5 attendees receive a dinner of soup, salad, bread and while enjoying performances from local musicians. Attendees will hear presentations from those that want to pitch their ideas ranging from art, agriculture, environmental, social justice, social entrepreneurs, education, technology and more. We get to meet and hear from people doing great things in our community—anything from cleaning up a park, to running an after-school program, to starting an art project. Each presenter has a few minutes to share their idea and answer questions from the audience. Afterward the attendees eat, talk, share resources, enjoy art and vote on the project they think benefits the city the most. At the end of the night, we’ll count the ballots and the winner goes home with all of the money raised to carry out their project. Winners come back to a future soup dinner to report their project’s progress.
There are numerous benefits for participating in an event like this and a nice soup dinner with a chance to have your project funded is just a part of it. The great part is that you'll have a chance to meet and spend time with other Marfa residents and get to know what they are passionate about and what they are working on and it serves to foster closer community ties and a deeper sense of belonging. [Or at least it can.]
The specifics are being finalized as you read this and if you'd like to help get the first event all figured out and ready then please join the conversation by visiting the Marfa Soup Test Kitchen FB Group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/MarfaSoup/
