We are incredibly proud of this year's pilot program, but mostly so proud of our amazing students with hearts of GOLD! This year was fantastic!!
Marfa Blooms is a partnership between Alamito Foundation and Marfa ISD. In this Agribusiness Entrepreneurship Class, students launched their own business, "Marfa Blooms," to provide fresh, local flowers. They learned about their strengths, entrepreneurship, and business operations. They applied for a loan for “seed money”, and got to work planting flowers! Their flowers thrived, and they adopted a subscription model, making their business a ~blooming~ success.
In their first year, they paid off their debt, maintained consistent customers, and donated their profits to the Marfa Education Foundation - a non-profit that the students really believe in because of how they support Marfa students.
Initially Marfa Blooms operated out of a greenhouse at Alamito Ranch, BUT we’ve moved the greenhouse to MISD’s campus for easier student access and continuation of the program this fall!
Congratulations Marfa Blooms class of 2024! You set the bar high!
We got a pretty amazing surprise last night at graduation. Marfa Blooms voted to donate proceeds from their sales this year to Marfa Education Foundation. We couldn’t be more honored to receive this meaningful contribution. We will make sure that these funds directly benefit Marfa students.
Thank you, Marfa Blooms, and all who purchased flowers and supported their business venture this year. And a big thanks to Alamito Foundation for sponsoring this project and teaching these students so many important lessons along the way.
