No question that summer is here, and we are having a fling with Fling that we 10/10 recommend. Someone should have a forever with him. ❤️

Fling is 3 months old, 21 lbs, and precious as the day is long. He’s adoptable!

This little cub is surveying the kingdom, wondering where his home is? Val is a 16 week old stripy, splotchy, spotty mix of something small breed, neutered, fully vax’d, chipped, and an incredible dog to boot! He’s cat, dog, and kid-confident, not-too-barky, mostly housetrained, sleeps through the night, and full of joie de vivre!

Reach out through adoption survey to learn more or share widely!

Wrapping up this with a bit of celebration for last month’s adoptions...

Nine West Texas dogs found their way home in May.

From Churro’s iconic fluffy hair and his equally fluffy Highland cow sidekick, to sweet gentleman Roy settling into the cushiest retirement setup imaginable, to little river rat Ria (now Rita) trading West Texas for adventures in the piñon forests of New Mexico, these are the happy tails that keep us going.

This carousel is full of the best kind of updates: once strays and/or shelter dogs now stretched out in their own beds, making new friends, exploring new places, and being loved and cared for, exactly like they deserve.

May adoptions included:

🐾 Churro (late April, but how could we not?!)
🐾 Cortez (now Bam Bam)
🐾 Presley (now Poppy)
🐾 Ria (now Rita)
🐾 Dugan
🐾 Charlie
🐾 Bohéme (now Bo)
🐾 Roy
🐾 Nydas

That’s 9 adoptions in May and 40 adoptions so far in this year, with 2 more currently pending. We’re staying right on track toward our goal, and every adoption is a reminder of what can happen when fosters, adopters, volunteers, transporters, donors, and supporters come together for rescue pets across West Texas.

Want more happy tails? Visit our Dogs at Home page at otatwtx.org to see more OTAT-West Texas alumni living the good life.

And if stories like these make your day, consider becoming an OTAT-West Texas Member while you’re there. With a monthly donation starting at just $5 you can help create more happy tails, more second chances, and more moments like the ones you’re scrolling through here.

Pet Marfa, our Adoption Center & Pet Supply, is now open Friday through Monday from 12:00pm to 6:00pm. Stop by this weekend and meet some of the dogs still waiting for their turn!

🎉 Feelgood Friday! Namir (now going by Tigger) is celebrating his 2-months-in-foster anniversary today! After spending 276 days in the Alpine Shelter fighting an infection that was exacerbated by the high stress and low sleep of shelter life, we are proud to say that Tigger is NOW HEALED! Meds, medicated baths and the good life in home with dog friends, cat friends, kid friends and the fresh air of the open range have brought him to the pinnacle of health. Now he wants to get home!!

Tiggerhas many wonderful habits, and this Feelgood Friday we are featuring his recall. All it takes is a little smooch of the lips, and watch him come running!! You can take our word for it that he also has incredible leash skills, is housetrained, loves to go on car rides, tolerates a crate, and has an outgoing yet polite personality.

Tigger is six years old, and has spent almost a full year looking for his forever family. While he loves the ranch, we think that he would be a good fit with almost any home. Tigger ways 53 pounds and is fully vetted. His magical tiger stripes and expressive ears complete a perfect behavioral package! This good boy is a real catch! Our adoption survey is on our website and in the comments!

🎉UPDATE: Cupcake is safely back in her foster home, seemingly no worse for wear! Huge thanks to the paving crew over by the Alpine football field who obliged Cupcake’s demands for snuggles, picked her up, and called her in! Huge thanks also to Alpine Animal Services for the prompt response, comms, and even the drop off back to her foster. We appreciate everyone!! ❤️🙏🐶

LOST DOG! Cupcake was on her way to foster in Alpine, today (Thursday, 6/4) at 4pm, when something spooked her (transfer days are full of big changes) near the Alpine Middle School. Alpine Animal Services has been alerted.

Cupcake is a 12 lbs, female, white & tan chihuahua mix that is fully vetted (including microchip) and wearing an OTAT-West Texas tag and floral collar. She is friendly but obviously stressed!

Do not chase! Report sightings to 432-255-2614 or [email protected]

Please share this post and help us bring Cupcake back to the safety of her foster home!

No cloudy day can dim Mitt’s bright light! This one year old terrier mix has been an incredible mom to the softball team litter and now that her work raising them is done, she’s all about the rewards of a good life.

Mitt is quiet, dog and cat friendly, equally up for a snuggle or an adventure, and has perfect house manners. She’s eager for a gentle touch, loves to snuggle in the bed, and is very treat motivated (food motivated, not so much - girl may look cute but has the palate of a street dog). She weighs in just over 20 lbs but is still recovering from being a skinny stray and selflessly giving her all to her pups.

Barely more than a baby herself, Mitt has a long and happy life ahead of her- who’s the lucky one?
