With the recent verbal approval from the great state of Missouri to join the National Historic Buildings Registry restoration of this beautiful theater may begin!

Tuesday in the WDHM archive:

Over it’s lifetime the historic Uptown Theatre in beautiful Marceline has played host to not one but two movie premiers for the Walt Disney Company.

On July 4th, 1956 Walt and Roy Disney personally hosted the midwest premier of “The Great Locomotive Chase” starring Fess Parker, and on July 14th 1998 Mickey Mouse hosted the premier of his latest feature “The Spirit of Mickey”.

The Uptown has been a part of Marceline history since 1930, and today we dipped into the archives to see what was playing on the big screen during the month of February, 1945. A Double Feature every Friday and Saturday… what a deal!

GREAT NEWS!!

Today the Uptown Theatre received the verbal approval to be on the National Historic Registry!!!! 🙌

Last year, the Uptown Theatre brought on a professional research expert to assist the building in joining the Historic Registry. Today, that expert Russ Comber, appeared before a State board in Jefferson City (Missouri State Capitol) and presented historical facts about the Uptown Theatre (see pic below). Then followed by some Q&A by State employees, the Uptown Theatre received a verbal unanimous vote to be selected to be on the National Historic Registry!

The Uptown Theatre becomes the first building in Marceline to join the Registry (and Russ Comber is currently assisting other Marceline buildings in their Historic Registry pursuits as well).

While we proceed forward with the Historic Registry, Russ and his wife Abbie, have been actively working on grants that will help restore this historic gem.

This is a great victory for the building with great things to come!
