Money:
Families pay about $10 per session, and with about 4 sessions per year, that comes to around $40 per family, per year. We are required to pay for insurance to be allowed to use the Marbletown Community Center, and the dues pay for that annual insurance. General Information:
We are not a drop-off and we don't hire people. We take turns teaching classes, we all pitch in with set-up and clean-up, and we try to take good care of the town's property (No, you do not need to wear a party hat. Yes, you do need to refrain from climbing on the furniture, even if "furniture" is just a picnic table. If you join our co-op, you'll get to enjoy reading the guidelines in full.) Session runs for about six weeks and often end with an end-of-session potluck and swaps day (the kids bring things to 'sell' and 'buy' with pretend co-op money). We also sometimes meet in the evening - we had an art show in the fall of 2023, and a graduation and end-of-year dance in the spring of 2024.

We're welcoming visitors with teens this Wednesday.

If you have teenagers as well as a younger sibling, that's okay...but our younger group is pretty full, so we aren't in a position to welcome families who don't yet have a teenager... sorry about that.

If you think you'll make it, please send an email to me (Ali) at [email protected] and I'll include you when I send out sign-ups for the one-day classes we're offering.

Our next visitor day will be in the fall, when we devote half the day to ice breakers. This Wednesday doesn't have the same visitor-specific programming, but you are nonetheless very welcome to come and see what you think. :)

Here's a rough outline of the day:

What: Three Rivers Homeschool Co-op
Where: Marbletown Town Park on Tongore Road
When: 11 a.m. - 1:15 p.m., ish, and beyond
Cost to visit: Free (our co-op costs about $20 per year, per family)

11 a.m.: Arrive and mingle (who doesn't like a good mingle, lol?)
11:15 a.m.-12 p.m.: Class
Noon-12:30: LUNCH (B.Y.O.)
12:35-1:15 p.m.: Class
1:15 until ?: Goof-off time

Once I have the class schedule for Wednesday, I'll send it out via email. If you have questions in the meantime, feel free to ask. :)

Thanks!

FAQs

Q:
So the activities will occur in the order listed?
A:
Almost certainly not. They are all fairly high-maintenance, weather-requirement-wise, so they'll happen whenever the weather is right (if applicable). It's an emotional roller-coaster.

Q:
Last year, for the ice carving, my ice block wasn't fully frozen. When I started chipping, almost-frozen water ran out and froze my fingers.
A:
I'm so glad you brought this up! If you have large plastic recycling, or a kitchen-size plastic garbage can, please put it out NOW with about 12" of water in it, so it has its best chance to fully freeze.

Q:
Bathrooms? Will there be bathrooms? With liquid soap and warm, running water?
A:
No. But if you lower your standards, yes! We'll have a port-o-potty. Yay! Port-o-potty! And hand sanitizer!!

Q:
Will there be hot cocoa and tea and stuff? And cookies? And free money?
A:
Unknown. Ideally, I may try to bring more lumpy cocoa, and possibly hot water, and possibly tea bags, but I might not, and it will probably be B.Y.O. mugs this year

Hi, all-

Beginning Sewing
Chemistry (Covalent Bonds)
Practical Origami (Plate and Cup)
Exercise (Cardio and Strength)
Fabric Art
Knitting
Beginning Chess

An Escape Room

If you'd like to give it a try, please PM or email me so I can send you the sign-up sheet.

About us:
We meet weekly on Wednesdays in Marbletown, from roughly 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. We don't hire people, so we create, organize, and run all our own stuff. Parents take turns teaching, cleaning, organizing, you name it. We charge $10-ish per session ($40 per hyear) to cover our insurance. Other than that, we try to use whatever we have in our own closets/kitchens/attics.

Winter Session:
In a couple of weeks, we'll be moving back outside for our "winter session," which will be:
1) cold, on account of we'll be outside, and
2) different, on account of we'll be outside
Potential activities include ice carving (second annual); animal tracks; dog-sled racing (second annual); ice thickness measuring; and weather cancellations (not quite its own topic, lol).

Spring Session:
Then, we'll have one more "regular session" (6 weeks of classes, followed by a marketplace day and possibly, an end-of-year field day).
