Have you heard this one? A warthog, a thespian, and a diver walk into the Meet & Greet room... Please join us in wishing a very Happy Adoption Day to Hank, Milo, and Maple! These three arrived at HLCR with their own unique challenges, and all three showed their mettle to overcome them.
Hank came to us from Brady Animal Control during a stretch of overcrowding, a "purple heeler" whose red and blue cattle dog heritage produced a coat all his own. Between that coloring and a deep appreciation for muddy puddles, he earned the nickname Warthog and wore it proudly. Now Hank has a kind young man, a new sister, and plenty of mud to keep him busy.
Milo arrived from Lakeway after his owner could no longer care for him. A vocal, theatrical, and remarkably friendly hound mix, Milo found friends in the HLCR office, where he adopted a favorite squeaky toy and a new hobby of towing those friends around the room in a desk chair. Today Milo, a committed indoor couch dog, shares his days with a lovely couple and grandkids who are happy to keep the toys squeaking.
Maple and her siblings came from a neglectful situation where they spent an unknown amount of time confined to a chicken coop. She arrived anxious and wound tight, but patience uncovered a bright, wiggly, affectionate girl with a serious fondness for water and play. She now has a wonderful family and a big sister named Lucy who is every bit the water enthusiast she is.
None of these three are perfect, and we wouldn't trade a single quirk, because each one simply needed the right person to come along and say yes. Imagine what we could all accomplish if we said yes a little more often to the right things...
By the way, every HLCR dog goes home spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and on preventatives, and if extra care such as heartworm treatment is needed, we cover 100% of the cost.
