“I graduated from the University of Texas-Austin in 1973 with a degree in Fine Art. I spent the first 10
years, post-graduation, working in pottery. Life brings many surprises and in 1989 I went through a
divorce and had two children to raise which began a new chapter. I went back to school and over the
next 5 years got my teaching degree, my Masters and my Doctorate in Educational Leadership. When I
retired, I returned to my first love: art. My degree in education has been a great assistance in teaching
others how to “look” and record so they can create a lasting memory of an event in their lives
I began painting in pastels in the fall of 2019 and set a goal on becoming a Signature member of the
Pastel Society of America and accomplished this goal this summer (2021).
I live in rural Texas and record its many scenes and faces. I love to paint plein air as it allows me to
capture “the moment”. I can paint a painting early in the morning and return early evening to an
entirely new scene. I love the play of light on all the surfaces of the Earth.
Realizing I got a late start in my first love, art, I am inspired to record as much as I can in the beauty of
the places I visit. I have been fortunate enough to be chosen for an artist residency at Ghost Ranch in
Abiquiu, NM. I have also had the fortune of being chosen for an Artist Residency at Big Bend National
Park, TX.
I am a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America and a member of the Master Circle of the
International Association of Pastel Societies.”
