On Memorial Day we remember the brave men and women who have paid the ultimate price for our freedoms and the American way of life. Today we recommit to living a life worthy of their sacrifice. May we never forget.

Saturday evening MVFD was joined by our brothers at Alpine Fire in attending the 2026 Marathon ISD graduation ceremony. While every one of our graduates have a special place in our hearts and we are extremely proud of all of them, there was one in particular that MVFD and AFD came to see and cheer on. Our very own Firefighter Marco Brionez.

What can we say about this remarkable young man that most of you don’t already know? MVFD met Marco at a fire prevention week almost a decade ago and since then he has been a big part of our department. We watched him go from the skinny kid with a ton of questions to joining in our ranks as a Junior Firefighter, to full fledged Firefighter on his 18th Birthday this year. Marco served his community with pride and a servants heart and was always doing whatever he could to help out and make the department better. From religiously checking trucks and equipment to ensure readiness (sometimes forcing his friends not affiliated with the department to come help him), to completing his FF1 cert and responding to calls. Marco always charged forward with enthusiasm and dedication. He leaves a lasting impression on our Department, Community and the area first responders.

This week Marco will be traveling to MEPS (Military Entrance Processing Station) where he will exchange his turnout gear for a chance to earn an Eagle, Globe and Anchor and the title US Marine. While his absence on our department will be felt, we are proud and grateful for his pursuit of a higher calling way bigger than himself and our little town.

Congratulations Marco, we are excited to see you start your next adventure.

To Sadie, Elah and Enereyda, congratulations and best of luck to all of you in your journey in pursuit of higher education.

Your MVFD Command Team

It’s late. However we would love to wish Firefighter Orion Abernathy a Happy Birthday ! Orion has been on our department for a year and has proven himself an amazing asset on our department and in our community. Recently completing Firefighter 1&2 and now finishing hazmat awareness and operations certifications. We’ve all come to use the word “Sick” a little too much since he joined. Happy Birthday Orion ! Thank you for your service to your community.

I've been clearing the golf course for 17 years, and I can't tell you how many times I've had to go out on the golf course and beg people to come off and they still stay out there when severe weather is imminent. Since we've had the horn, I have not had that conversation.
