This week responders have been inundated with illegal burns across our community. We remind everyone that there is a burn ban in effect for Brewster county until December. We try as hard as we can to work with anyone wanting to burn, so If you want to burn on your property please contact : Chief Wilson @ (432)386-5414 or James Etchison BCEMC @ (432)538-2106 to see what can be done to help you burn and to give our responders a heads up. MVFD is a 100% volunteer agency. When citizens burn on their property without notifying anyone on the department or in the county, our responders are forced to leave their paying jobs to respond not knowing what the smoke is from. This results in less hours worked and less pay for no reason. In addition to the toll it takes on our responders, violating the burn ban in Brewster county is a class c misdemeanor and can result in a fine of up to $500.

So please, help us keep Marathon safe while keeping our responders from having to roll trucks to non necessary calls by contacting us ahead of your burn.

Tim is still on his healing journey after medical complications earlier this year but I hope he knows we are celebrating with him in spirit. Happy Birthday Tim!

Our deepest condolences are with the Family, Friends and Teammates of Alejandra Franco during this difficult time.

The Tarleton State Rodeo Team is deeply saddened by the passing of our own, Alejandra Franco.

Alejandra tragically lost her life yesterday, leaving behind a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

During this difficult time, we ask that you join us in keeping her family, friends, and the team in your thoughts and prayers.

Wednesday night FF Castro and Chief Wilson travelled to Alpine VFD’s burn-house to complete SFFMA skills for FF Castro’s FF1, FF2 and Hazmat A&O. These skill evolutions are to test our responders knowledge on the fire ground on different tasks, FF Castro passed skills and is ready for his written test to gain state licensure. Good work FF Castro, and a huge thank you to Chief Etchison and Alpine Fire crews for hosting.

Tonight Chief Wilson, Captain Wilson and Probationary FF Batts traveled to Ozona to go over smoke reading and fire behavior with our friends at Crocket County Fire and EMS. Thank you to Chief Martin and his crew for the opportunity to train!
