KAIR Keys Area Interdenominational Resources Food Pantry and Crisis Services for Those in Need in the Middle Keys

KAIR was incorporated in 1998 as a non-profit agency through a collaboration of local churches. This faith-based organization is now funded through public and private grants, donations, and fund raisers. Through the years KAIR has played an increasingly important role in providing emergency services. The food pantry is the only USDA certified food pantry for over 60 miles and distributes over 30,000 pounds of food a month.

It's mighty cold out there this week. We have run out of men's warm clothes. Anybody got sweatshirts, long-sleeve T's, socks, sneakers, jeans, jackets, sweaters for men?
Much appreciated if you can drop anything off. Please share this if you can.
We are located at 3010 Overseas Hwy., in Marathon. Our office number is 305-743-4582. We are here all day today and tomorrow.
Thanks in advance!

Do you buy BOGOs and not know what to do with the second item? Do you have items in your cupboard that sounded like a good idea when you bought them but you know you're not going to use? Today is your opportunity to make a difference and donate food to KAIR through the United Way of Collier and the Keys sponsored food drive to honor Mike Forster's memory. Mike was such a help to non-profits in the Keys before he passed away a few years ago. He would love that he is still being remembered.
Come to KAIR, 3010 Overseas Hwy., Marathon between 2pm and 6pm to drop off food and say Hello!
Below you see Tammy Elwell of First State Bank and Rev. Debra Mafconaughey and her folks bringing food to KAIR.

"I get by with a little help from my friends" is a Beatles lyric that is so true. The KAIR food pantry feeds many families every day. The large food drives, such as the annual postal carriers' drive in May, are very important, but these individual food drives are also extremely helpful. Reit Steinmetz and friends had a local voter registration drive on Saturday. They combined their event with a food drive for KAIR. Here are Reit, Katie Davis, Phyllis Kuykendall, and Fred Swanson with their wonderful food donation. Thanks guys!

KAIR got overwhelmed with keeping up with recycling our cardboard. Marathon Garbage Service, owned by the Konrath Family, came and got us all straightened out! Pictured here are Ronnie and Anselmo. Forgive me for not getting the driver's name!

Do you know Emilio Marin who owns Stone Specialists? They are great countertop fabricators. He is my "hero of the day". He came with his employees to unload a semi truck full of food and it was pouring rain! We couldn't have done it without him. I'm adding a photo of some of the other "heroes" today who showed up to help. Great job guys! They were absolutely soaked but never complained!

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving food distribution recently with the help of so, so, many people! Pictured here are Jackie Yeyo Sparber, and Debbie and Chuck Maggio bringing Thanksgiving food donations. Also, shown are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints packing our food baskets. There are many people to thank including Peter and Marie of the Incredible Food Stand for bringing us delicious fruits and vegetables and Hammer Runyon for helping the setup go smoothly. We provided 300 families in the Keys with the fixins to have a family Thanksgiving dinner in their own home!

Our Feeding South Florida driver Marcus showed great patience and good spirits today as he faced technical challenges and unloaded almost 10,000 pounds of food by hand! Thank you Marcus! The food pantry needed these supplies. Also, we received a lot of help in unloading. It's true that "many hands make light work!" Thank you to all.

I had the pleasure this morning of joining United Way of Collier and the Keys at our Marathon Publix store. Publix has been such a wonderful partner in donating both food and funds to local non-profits in the Keys. We salute them! In the middle is Leah Stockton, Keys Area President of United Way.
