A BIG 👏 for South Orange & Maplewood School District as we head into the new school year!

We’re thrilled to see meaningful steps toward a healthier, more intentional relationship with technology in our schools — including bell-to-bell phone-free school days, Chromebooks staying at school for K–5, no Chromebook use during lunch/recess, reduced use of programs like iReady, more curated digital access, and increased parental oversight.

These changes create more space for what kids need most: learning, focus, play, conversation and connection. 💛

Thank you to our district leaders for listening, evolving and putting student well-being at the center. This is real progress — and something worth celebrating! 👏📚✨

2️⃣5️⃣📈WE DID IT! 25% AND COUNTING… 🎉

We set a big goal for this school year, and thanks to this incredible community, we officially reached it: 26% (!!!) of our community has signed the Wait Until 8th pledge!

What does that actually mean? It means 1 in 4 kids across our two towns doesn’t have to feel like the “outlier” for waiting to get a smartphone.

By banding together, we are completely shifting the culture of our shared spaces—our playgrounds, playdates, and neighborhoods. More looking up, more real-world connection, and less screen pressure.

We are nowhere near done, but for now, we are toasting to this milestone and saying a massive THANK YOU to everyone who has signed, shared, and supported us. 💛

Our Team Unscreen community had an incredible (sobering at times) evening learning the ropes of tech-safety and intentional usage. A BIG thank you to for her generously sharing her expertise and to for her NEXT level cheese board. Shout out to captains/hostesses extraordinaire and - We can’t wait for the next session!
