⚡️This is what community-driven change looks like.⚡️
Yesterday’s announcement from the South Orange–Maplewood School District marks a major step toward a healthier, more balanced relationship with technology in our schools — including expanded smartphone restrictions, limits on YouTube and open internet access for younger students, stronger parental controls, and a phased move away from 1:1 take-home devices in grades K–8.
These shifts didn’t happen overnight. They happened because parents, educators, students, volunteers, researchers, and advocates kept showing up, asking thoughtful questions, sharing research, organizing conversations, and pushing for policies that put children’s well-being first.
We’re incredibly proud of the role Team Unscreen and THIS amazing community have played in helping move the conversation forward. This is not about rejecting technology — it’s about creating balance, protecting childhood, supporting mental health, and building learning environments centered on human connection.
Grateful to everyone who has lent their voice, time, expertise, and energy to this movement. This is meaningful progress — and an important reminder that collective advocacy matters. 💛
