The 2024 Jersey-Friendly Yards Conference, themed “The Hows and Whys for Spaces of Any Size,” promises an engaging, workshop-based experience for gardening enthusiasts of all levels. This year’s event will feature keynote speaker, Elaine Silverstein and your choice of two hands-on sessions: native plant propagation, soil assessment, invasive plant identification, or a dynamic Q&A panel discussion with Master Gardeners, offering expert advice and insights. Join us to learn practical techniques and sustainable practices to transform any sized space into a thriving, Jersey-Friendly Yard.

About Elaine Silverstein
Elaine will deliver our keynote presentation, Growing Native Plants in Small Spaces. She will discuss growing native plants in pots, creating a Three-Square Foot Garden, and designing small borders and tree islands.
Elaine Silverstein is certified in Sustainable Landscape Management by the New York Botanical Garden; she has also earned the Urban Naturalist certificate and continues to study botany, ecology, and landscape design. She maintains a horticulture practice in Bergen County where she advises clients on sustainability, garden design, and installing and caring for native plantings. She is a vice president of the Native Plant Society of New Jersey and co-leader of the Bergen-Passaic chapter. She lives in Glen Rock, where she is a member of the Environmental Commission. .
