Together We Bloom

Together We Bloom Connection. Communication. Community.

Sensory tools are not “nice to have” at events.

They are access.

For many neurodivergent kids, the difference between leaving an event and being able to participate can be simple:

Headphones. Fidgets. A quiet space. Movement breaks. Visual supports. Flexible participation.

Inclusion is not just opening the door.

It’s making the space possible to stay in.

Neuroqueer Pride is a neurodiversity-affirming, sensory-friendly celebration created by and for the Neurodivergent LGBTQ+ Community and allies. Find us adjacent to the North Jersey Pride Festival in Memorial Park on Sunday June 14.

This year’s Neuroqueer Pride area includes:
-Sensory-friendly space: tents for shade, open space away from crowds, and a quieter experience of the music
-Social communication badges: a tool (started by the Autistic community) to nonverbally share your comfort with social engagement (green=let’s talk, yellow=let me talk first, red= not feeling like talking)
-“Quiet Zone” and “Party Zone” spaces: designed to meet a variety of sensory needs
-Sensory Accessibility Kits: individual bags to borrow while at the festival with ear defenders, sunglasses, fidgets, and communication board
-South Orange Sensory Vehicle: a sound-proofed, air conditioned van with sensory regulation tools
-Solo or group activities: Art supplies, games, and books, provided by neuro-affirming community partners

Neuroqueer Pride is more than just a celebration— It’s an essential act of accessibility, inclusion, representation, and social justice.

Thank you to North Jersey Pride for their support and partnership!

Speech therapy does not have to mean sitting still at a table and following an adult-directed plan.

Neuro-affirming speech therapy means movement, play, regulation, and connection as the FOUNDATION for communication support. Not as a reward after communication.

To the kid, this feels like having fun with a trusted adult. To the neuro-affirming therapist, this means authentic communication progress while fostering their neurodivergent self-identity and understanding (and also having a lot of fun).

Just two more days until our community-wide Zoom workshop for parents, educators, caregivers, and community members committed to raising inclusive kids who understand disability and neurodiversity as natural, important parts of human diversity.

How to Talk to Kids about Disability and Neurodiversity:
Growing our Community’s Commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Co-sponsored by the Clinton Elementary School , Marshall Elementary School PTA, Seth Boyden Demonstration School, + Tuscan PTA PTAs and open to the whole community!

Through a lens of professional and lived experiences of disability, we’ll discuss an intersectional disability justice framework to:

1) Examine what it means to be an anti-ableist, neurodiversity-affirming parent/caregiver;
2) Reframe "differences" as natural, valuable parts of our communities—not“problems” to fix or ignore;
3) Engage tough questions in ways that center care, dignity and justice;
4) Identify everyday opportunities to model and help normalize anti-ableist, neurodiversity-affirming values, from playground interactions to media choices; and
5) Explore concrete next-steps that caregivers can take to help raise anti-ablest kids including book lists & resources for all ages to continue learning.

Hi, I’m Kim. I’m a speech-language pathologist and the founder of Together We Bloom.

We’re here to support disabled and neurodivergent children through equitable access to connection, communication, and community - which means transforming therapy rooms, schools, and towns to be more affirming and accessible.

Follow along as we help build a more inclusive world, one child, family, and community space at a time.

GRANTEE SPOTLIGHT: Together We Bloom
In 2023, The Maplewood Foundation awarded a $5,000 Seed Grant to Together We Bloom, a nonprofit dedicated to increasing inclusion and equity for neurodivergent and disabled community members and their families. The grant supported sensory-friendly spaces at Maplewoodstock and North Jersey Pride, as well as a panel discussion with local disability advocates.

Since then, Together We Bloom has expanded its impact—working alongside people with lived experience to identify needs and create accessible solutions. Recognizing the demand for practical, affordable tools, they launched a new initiative to support smaller organizations in implementing accessibility features without significant cost barriers.

With support from a $10,000 Maplewood Foundation Program Grant, they developed “Blueprints for Belonging”—a suite of low-cost and free resources designed to foster more inclusive spaces across the community.

We’re proud to support Together We Bloom’s work to build greater understanding, accessibility, and belonging in South Orange and Maplewood.

Check out the South Mountain YMCA, NJ's Inclusive Egg Hunt this Sunday, March 29. Registration is open for slots at 9:30, 11:00, and 12:30.

We want to take a moment to shine a spotlight on our amazing TWB Advisory Board Member, Nicole Josey (Nicole Renee Josey ), who is the Associate Director of Arts and Enrichment at the South Mountain Y (and SEPAC President). Nicole saw a need for more accessible programming in our town and she didn't just sit back and hope someone else would take care of it. She is taking action and leading the charge to make it happen.

Last year, she started the inclusive egg hunt and its back again this year with even more time slots! But that's just the beginning. Nicole and her incredible team at the Y (, James Goodger, Christel Hyden ) have also created intentionally inclusive programming for basketball, theater, baking, and summer camps. They are paving the way for so many families to participate in activities that were previously inaccessible to them. And our whole community is better because of that.

We are incredibly proud to have Nicole on our board and we are constantly inspired by the work she is doing to make our towns more accessible.

As a community partner, we were honored to support the egg hunt and provide our sensory accessibility kits and an event communication board.

Thank you, Nicole, for all that you do and for modeling that true community is accessible!
