Maple Valley Parks & Recreation now offers creative writing classes. Join us at the Lake Wilderness Lodge as class participants create and contribute to the city’s first literary journal, SOGGYFOOT. Various classes are available and run from September through October. The instructor, Margaret Landry, is a local resident and writer. The classes take place at the Lake Wilderness Lodge and the studen
ts will have their best work published in the annual journal. Enroll today on the Parks and Recreation website: www.maplevalleywa.gov or call the office at 425-432-9953. Students, ages 16 and up, can join the “Flash Fiction” class and the “10-Minute play class.” There is, also, a “Memoir Writing” class for adults, ages 50 and above. These creative classes extend beyond the scope of traditional genres and focus on the current trends in playwriting and e-publication. It is important for local writers to write with intention and not stockpile journals in their closet, never to see the light of day. The intent, here, is to create original pieces that will be published and seen. No intimidation factor should exist and all levels of experience are welcome. The instructor hopes to guide others at every phase. Why should the city care about the literary journal? A great man once said, “A society’s character is determined by how its artist are treated.” The city supports this effort because there needs to be a stable and continual publication so the work of residential writers can be available to the public. We are more than a bedroom community and we have tons of talent that we want to retain, explore, and showcase through the Arts programs, right here! The SOGGYFOOT Literary Journal, will be edited and run, by the instructor, in its infancy. But, it will be an evolving publication and will be a collaborative effort of local writers and supporters. Check out the various classes offered through October at www.maplevalleywa.gov and enroll today! If you wish to leave feedback, ideas, have questions or comments for the instructor, you can post on the project page: SOGGYFOOT LITERARY JOURNAL.
