Today, Fire Cadet Samuel Chrzan was officially sworn in to serve the residents of Maple Heights. Sam joins our department as a certified firefighter and paramedic, bringing two years of experience with the Burton Fire Department.

We wish him a long, safe, and healthy career serving the citizens of Maple Heights.

We would also like to extend our thanks to Mayor Annette Blackwell for administering the Oath of Office and for her continued support of the Maple Heights Fire Department.

During the powerful storm that swept through Greater Cleveland on 03/31/2026, one of our own in the firefighting community suffered a devastating loss. A lightning strike caused a fire that destroyed Chuck’s home.
Chuck is a dedicated member of the Maple Heights Fire Department, someone who has spent his career protecting others during their worst moments. Now, he’s facing one of his own.
Maple Hts Local 1184 is coming together support Chuck and help him get back on his feet. Any donation—big or small—will make a meaningful difference as he begins to rebuild.

At approximately 8:00 AM on March 18, 2026, the Maple Heights Fire Department responded to a reported house fire in the 5300 block of Thomas Street. The incident was initially reported by a passerby.

Upon arrival, crews encountered a well-involved 2½-story residential structure with fire showing from multiple levels. Firefighters deployed two handlines and initiated an aggressive interior attack. Due to the extent of fire throughout all levels of the home, it took time to bring the incident under control.

The home was unoccupied at the time of the fire. Crews were able to locate and remove one dog from the residence, which was treated on scene with oxygen. Unfortunately, a second dog was found deceased.

One firefighter sustained minor injuries after briefly becoming disoriented inside the structure. He was evaluated on scene and did not require hospitalization.

The residence sustained heavy fire damage on all levels.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Assisting agencies included the Bedford Fire Department, Bedford Heights Fire Department, Warrensville Heights Fire Department, Garfield Heights Fire Department, Solon Fire Department, and Valley View Fire Department.

3-17-26 Happy St Patrick’s day to all!!

3-13-26 (C-shift) Maple Hts fire department responded to 73 calls of service in 24 hours. Crews worked extremely hard to answer all the calls. Crews responded to one residential home that caught fire due to electrical lines, Trees down on homes, critical medical emergencies calls and of course wires down and tree and pole fires. Thanks to our M/A , Dispatch and police that helped us out during the storm.

3-11-26 0630hrs (C-shift) Maple Hts station 1&2 responded to a 2 story residential structure fire on the 20000 block of Claire ave. MABAS activated On scene E-1 crew found fire on second floor. One line stretched. All occupants evacuated. Crews knock fire down and overhauled. Thanks to all mutual aid companies. Fire under investigation by MHFD. No injuries reported.
