ABOUT LEVY 10
As you may know, Issue 10, the Cuyahoga DD levy, will be on the ballot this November. For those of us who work in the developmental disability field, understanding the levy is important because it directly impacts the people we serve and the work we do at SAW.
Although SAW, Inc. is a private provider, the Cuyahoga DD levy plays an important role in supporting our mission. Cuyahoga DD supports more than 15,000 people with developmental disabilities and their families each year, providing and funding services such as employment, transportation, independent living supports, early intervention, family supports and community programs.
It has been more than 20 years since Cuyahoga DD has asked voters to increase local funding, while the cost of services and the number of people needing support have continued to grow. Approximately 90% of current levy dollars go directly toward services and supports.
HOW DOES IT AFFECT SAW?
Approximately 81% of SAW's revenue comes from Medicaid waiver funding. The Cuyahoga DD levy provides the local funding needed to draw down federal Medicaid dollars that help support many of SAW's services. Levy funding also supports programs for people who do not qualify for Medicaid waivers, including family supports and SAW's Saturday program at Parma AAC.
Changes in levy funding could affect waiver availability, budgets, Support Administration and other services throughout the system.
