Abandoned Loon Eggs

These were blown in last night with a Loon on them as they travelled to the South Bay.

I watched the Loon leave as the bog hit the dock. Checked this morning, no Loons.

Called MN Wildlife rescue and they said that they are not allowed by law to work with Loons as they are the State Bird.

Called the DNR and spoke to the person in charge of Loons. Raising Loons in captivity is very hard. This occurred naturally so they are going to do nothing.

Legally, we citizens are not allowed to do anything either.

Since the eggs were left overnight unattended I suspect that they are no longer viable.

It saddens me that this is how our state treats their bird.

Wondering what's going on at Eagle Lake in Maple Grove? This week the Shingle Creek Watershed Commission and City of Maple Grove are partnering up on alum treatments on Eagle and adjacent Pike Lakes. Work should be complete by the end of this week.

Curly-leaf pondw**d is known to be present in more than 750 Minnesota water bodies. It grows in the early spring and can create dense mats on the surface that interfere with recreation.
