SCTIS was founded in 2006 by Tammie Epley. A one-of-a-kind opportunity to give back! Students Connecting Through International Service (SCTIS) provides opportunities for students at four elementary schools in District 279 (located in the NW suburbs of the Twin Cities) to make a difference for students in Sasabe, Sonora, Mexico. The children who attend Juan Escutia Elementary in Sasabe must provide
their own school supplies. However, poverty and a lack of stores/resources make it impossible for most students to do so. Funds raised through SCTIS provide all of the school supplies for the students, along with supplies for the teachers and school. The program was founded in 2006 by Tammie Epley, a former Osseo School Board member, and was recognized in 2018, with a Local Government Innovation Award by the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School of Public Affairs.
