LNCT’s Alder Creek Farm and Natural Area is a place where our community grows food, learns together, and supports one another. In times of economic stress and rising food costs, we’re supporting community access to fresh, locally grown food through partnerships with the North County Food Bank, Nehalem Bay Community Services, and the Nehalem Bay Health Clinic food programs.

As demand for these services grows, so too does the importance of community-powered organizations like LNCT that can respond locally and directly.

With your support, these refugia can continue to be places of renewal for all of us to find connection here in the Nehalem Bay region.

UPCOMING EVENT - In two weeks on June 4th, Old Grove Films, Beyond Toxics, and North Coast Communities for Watershed Protection collaborate on an event presenting a screening of “Free to Grow,” with filmmaker Jesse Andrew Clark in attendance. The half-hour documentary explores the impact of industrial pesticide use on Oregon families. Oregonians have taken up the fight against aerial herbicide spraying by the forestry industry for over fifty years — but has public safety around these substances improved?

After the film, Jennifer Eisele from Beyond Toxics will discuss practical ways that coastal residents can keep track of spraying in their communities and watersheds. This includes a first-of-its-kind map which plots pesticide applications in Oregon forests from 2014 to 2024. We will also provide resources to sign up for future forestry herbicide spray notifications through the Oregon Forestry Activity Electronic Reporting and Notification System (FERNS). Admission is free. Bay City Arts Center, 5680 A Street, Bay City, Oregon, Thursday, June 4, doors at 5:45 p.m., film at 6 p.m.

NCCWP wants no more logging and pesticide use in community drinking water sources regardless of who owns the land, and wants an end to pesticide applications near where people live, work, and recreate.

Interested in learning more about permaculture, no-till gardening, compost or organic growing? Attempting to grow food in our changeable coastal climate? Don't go it alone! LNCT's Alder Creek Farm Community Garden invites you to join in, learn and participate in harvest sharing with us on summer Saturdays.

Our Community Garden program is made up of a passionate group of nearly 60 local volunteers who commit to tending a shared garden from March through November each year. However, you don't need to commit to a full season to reap the benefits of growing organic produce alongside your community.

Join us on Saturday mornings at the farm at your leisure to join in. A $5 donation is asked for volunteers who would like to participate in harvest sharing.

Your donation to LNCT helps us support conservation efforts that preserve land and water for communities of all species to flourish.

From tidal wetlands hosting juvenile salmon, to meadows providing resting grounds for migratory birds finding their way home, LNCT conservation lands provide refuge for during times of transition. At Alder Creek Farm and Natural Area, LNCT's volunteer community comes together to grow organic produce that is then supplied to our broader community in Nehalem Bay.

Just beyond Nehalem Bay, the forests of the Headwaters Reserve are also refugia. They extend the protection of nearby state park lands and provide refuge within a landscape shaped by intensive timber harvest. Beneath the towering canopy and along the trail, fawn lilies, trillium, and rattlesnake plantain find shelter in the dappled shade of the understory. These maturing coastal forests support rich biodiversity that cannot be replaced once lost. They are strongholds of resilience, safeguarding ecological and genetic diversity for the future—work that depends on sustained community investment in local land conservation efforts.

This spring, we invite you to help us tend our farm and our forests. Your donation helps protect and steward diverse sanctuaries that support community well-being and access to nature.

41 species observed!

Did you know Alder Creek Farm and Natural Area is a hotspot on the Oregon Coast Birding Trail? In just a few hours on World Migratory Bird Day (and Mother's Day!) weekend, we observed forty-one species in just two hours!

Check out our eBird checklist of the day: https://ebird.org/checklist/S335756343

Many thanks to local experts Cliff Cordy and Gary Fugle for leading us on our birdwatching exploration :) Home to a variety of avian species, Alder Creek Farm is surrounded by conservation lands that protect habitats like seasonal wetlands, riparian edges, and forested uplands. On this walk, we were lucky enough to experience a little bit of everything.

For those who couldn’t make it, we encourage you to bring a pair of binoculars on your next visit to Alder Creek Farm!
