Man destroyed the food supply, driving opossum into rar trap! Injured and syffering simply for trying to survive!
Charlie the opossum has been having a rough time finding food lately; the city dug up the roads and disturbed all the rats that were in the sewers. The rats took to the surface and whatever extra food there was to be had was always gone. Being a late season baby, he knew it would be an uphill battle to find what he needed and especially competing against the rats. Charlie was really looking forward to the day when he would be BIGGER than they are so he could eat THEM.
Last night Charlie was out looking for a snack and unfortunately happened upon a trap intended for a rat. It snapped closed on his little hand. It hurt so much; he wondered how he would ever get the thing off. Thankfully Patrick saw him this morning and freed him from him trap and brough him over to us.
I have Charlie on medication for pain and inflammation. It is paramount that the swelling goes down so that the healthy tissue receives blood supply; he needs his hand to survive.
As a whole, everyone is going to see a huge uptick in wildlife activity right now. Squirrels are trying to stockpile for the winter, Skunks are digging for grubs to get fat, rats are also trying to get everything they need to survive. So while it feels like there are so many MORE, it's just an increase in activity. Try to be patient with them. I have 3 skunks and a fat raccoon named Pillsbury who come every night. They aren't trying to make trouble, they are just doing what they need to survive.
