Dear Upward Family,

Since Manteno Church of the Nazarene launched the program in 2012, Upward Basketball has been the start of many children’s athletic and spiritual journey. For the many children and families who grew up with Upward, we are saddened to announce that the Upward Sports ministry will not be offering a 2023 season and that the basketball ministry will be permanently closing.

We have encountered so many amazing people who have come through these doors in the last 10 seasons. From athletes, coaches, and referees to concession workers, announcers, photographers, set-up and tear-down crews, and all the other volunteers who poured into this ministry: we are beyond grateful for the support and the memories made.

There are great things ahead for our Church, we still plan to be a warm, inviting, and safe place for the families in our community to pursue our mission to Love God, Journey Together, Serve Others and Share Jesus.

Due to the risks and challenges of the pandemic, we regret to announce that the 2022 Upward Basketball Season has been cancelled.

This was an extremely difficult decision for us to make. Our league requires a large number of volunteers, as well as large facilities to run practices and play games. To that end, we are subject to the protocols of both the Manteno Church of the Nazarene and the Manteno Elementary School. Our choice to cancel this year reflects our desire to protect our athletes, volunteers, and families as well as our commitment to offering meaningful experiences between our players, coaches, and fans that transcend game day. We do not feel that we can offer this experience at this time.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause your family. We will sorely miss seeing you this season. Thank you in advance for your understanding, and feel free to contact us with any questions you may have. We hope to see you again for the 2023 season!

When you arrive, please park and walk to the main entrance. The pictures will be in an envelope alphabetized by family. Please maintain social distancing.

Upward Drive-Thru Picture Pickup...
With the Phase 3 plan to reopen Illinois, we are now able to safely distribute Upward pictures for all ages. We will be having a drive-thru picture pickup on Tuesday, June 2, from 8:30-10:00 a.m. and 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the main entrance of Manteno Church of the Nazarene (698 N Locust St, Manteno). When you arrive, please stay in your car and be prepared to tell the attendant the athlete's name and age division.
