Nadeya Lavandero, Founder and Executive Director of Right to Protect, a court-qualified domestic violence expert, weighed in on Grossman’s case:
“Any notice made upon OCDA by a victim fleeing domestic violence or child abuse should satisfy the requirements under Penal Code § 278.7.”
“It is not the victim’s responsibility to ensure the DA’s Office processes a Good Cause Waiver.”
“In Tawny Minna Grossman’s case, OCDA has refused to implement legal protections, instead weaponizing the system against her. Their prosecutorial discretion has been abused to punish rather than protect, sending a terrifying message to victims that seeking safety will result in criminal prosecution rather than legal refuge.”

It's been uniquely heavy on my heart to say something since seeing the replay of Monica Hill's FB live stream addressing her recent revelations about her marriage to Bryan Trejo of Kingdom Family Music, for those who might need to "hear" what I am about to say.
As much as I understand the concept and need for grace, we need to understand that the situation with Bryan goes beyond simple infidelity. This man was emotionally, psychologically, and spiritually abusive to his wife; based on the things she shared about their marriage and the way he treated her.
This wasn't a mistake. This man committed himself to a lifestyle of abuse, mistreatment, and abandonment of his wife and family. The things she described in her fb live were an embodiment of coercive control.
Pray for him, absolutely, but do not mistake his charisma for the anointing of the Holy Spirit. And be wary of anyone who's only display of remorse is in the face of exposure and significant harm to their livelihood and public image. This man committed many years of his life to the image he portrayed to the public and just because God was able to use him to reach many for the kingdom doesn't mean he isn't a wolf in sheep's clothing.
I do not say this in the spirit of condemnation, I say this to encourage everyone to practice discernment. Can God use this situation to draw Bryan to Him? Absolutely. Just as He was able to use him in spite of himself. But do not get so caught up on grace for Bryan, because you want to believe that the man you thought you knew him to be was more than just a facade, that you alienate Monica and her suffering.
I say what I do as a Bible believing Christian, survivor, and subject matter expert in domestic violence; all of which provides me a unique perspective and insight on the matter.

California Judges: The Good, the Bad, and the… San Joaquin County, Part Two
Last month, during December 2024, domestic violence restraining order (DVRO) hearings for the Marino v. Mackey case brought troubling issues to light. Mackey testified to multiple forms of abuse and intimidation, supported by video and photographic evidence. Despite this, Judge Jonathan Fattarsi appeared unpersuaded.

RIGHT TO PROTECT is an organization whose mission is to provide supportive services and resources to victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, human trafficking, and stalking. Our vision is to assist those whom we serve with everything from escaping their situation to livi a healthy and productive life thereafter.
The founding of RIGHT TO PROTECT was inspired by the President / Executive Director’s own first hand experience searching for and navigating the resources currently available to victims and survivors as she escaped her own abusive situation of domestic violence and spousal r**e that later led to stalking by her abuser.
As an adult survivor of childhood and adolescent sexual abuse, domestic violence, spousal r**e, and stalking she knows how painful and devastating experiences like these are. Operating from a belief she wholeheartedly holds to, that her experiences have not been for nothing, it is through the successful operation of this organization that she believes she can make the best use of those experience and the lessons learned to be of service to others coming from same or similar situations. Through her experiences she has been made well aware of the need for the services that currently exist, where the offering of services are lacking, and how greatly people coming from same and similar experiences would benefit from bringing together all of the services and resources currently available.
In navigating the available services and resources she has faced frustration as she has come to realize how competitive the culture is in the realm of nonprofit services, believing that this is largely due to the fight for funding, and how gross of a disservice it is to those whom an organization exists to serve. The most common answer to her inquiry about other possible services and resources that might exist outside of the one to whom she was making the inquiry was “I don't know.” Therefore most of what she has learned was learned through her own efforts to seek out what she believed she needed and ask questions that others might not think to ask. RIGHT TO PROTECT understands that we are not a one man show and we cannot do it all, therefore if there is something that our organization cannot do for our clients it is our job, and responsibility to those we exist to serve, to find and direct them to someone who can.
Our goal is to empower and equip our clients with the knowledge and skill sets vital to fostering self-advocacy and preservation. Through education, support, and various other resources we assist those we serve with everything from escaping their current situation to living a healthy and productive life thereafter. With the help and support of our organization, and the many others in our ever growing network of partnered resources, our clients will find themselves better equipped to protect themselves, and their families, from their perpetrators. We DO NOT advocate violence or a spirit of vengeance or retaliation but understand that our clients may be forced to face the unfortunate circumstances that will require them to defend themselves, and their families, where their perpetrators are unrelenting in their pursuit. Our services exist to ensure that our clients have the ability to do this both legally and effectively. With the best defense being a good offense we believe that the best way to protect oneself, and ones family, is to proactively seek to reduce or eliminate the potential for an encounter. With right comes responsibility and our organization operates from a position of the utmost respect for both.

*You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Galatians 5:13-14
