National Association of University Women Mansfield Branch Women Moving Forward with Purpose and Pride

05/10/2026

💚 May is Mental Health Awareness Month — and at NAUW SouthCentral, we believe that caring for your mind is just as important as any degree, career, or achievement you hold.

To every university woman carrying invisible weight right now: you are seen, you are valued, and you do not have to do this alone.

This month, we encourage our sisterhood to:

✅ Check in on a friend — not just "how are you?" but really listen
✅ Normalize therapy, rest, and setting boundaries
✅ Release the guilt of not being "strong enough"
✅ Remember that healing is not a detour — it is the path

💚 🤍

Today we honor and celebrate the mothers, grandmothers, bonus mothers, caregivers, and nurturing women whose love, wisdom, sacrifice, and strength help shape our families and communities every day.

Mothers are educators, leaders, encouragers, and protectors, often carrying generations forward with grace and resilience. Their impact reaches far beyond the home and continues to inspire future leaders and changemakers.

To every woman who pours into others with care and compassion, we thank you. May today remind you just how valued, appreciated, and loved you are. 💚

Happy Mother’s Day!

The NAUW-Mansfield Branch hosted our annual G.L.O.W. Luncheon (Girls Leading, Optimizing, and Winning), an uplifting experience created to inspire, educate, and encourage young women in grades 9th through 12th. This event provided a safe, positive, and enriching space where young ladies can grow in confidence, gain valuable knowledge, and connect with others. Sessions included:

* Mental Well-Being
* Scholarship Information
* All About You: Skin & Hair
* Arts & Crafts
* Gifts & Prizes
* Food, Fun & Fellowship

Special thanks goes to the DeSoto Parish School Board for allowing us to host this special event in their state of the art administration building. We would also like to extend special thanks to our guest presenters, Misty Thomas-Milton and Arleatha Eckles. Your presentations on skin care and hair care provided valuable information for our girls. We also had a surprise guest who stopped by to get a look at what we do at our event - Mr. Chris Thomas, Principal of Mansfield High School. Your presence spoke volumes. All the girls enjoyed and benefited from GLOW.

We are very proud of our very own sister, LaCurtria Clay! Congratulations on your well deserved recognition of being a 40 Under 40 honoree! 💚💚💚

Special Announcement: Meet 50 Under 50 Honoree LaCurtria Clay

We are proud to recognize LaCurtria Clay as one of this year’s Roy Griggs 50 Under 50 Award Honorees!

A dynamic educator, mentor, and community leader, LaCurtria Clay has dedicated over 22 years to shaping lives through education, empowerment, and service. A proud native of Leesville, Louisiana, and graduate of Grambling State University, LaCurtria’s career reflects both excellence and heart.

Currently serving as Assistant Principal at Pathways in Education, she leads with integrity, compassion, and a deep belief in the power of learning to transform lives. Beyond academics, LaCurtria has spent many years teaching cheer and dance, using movement and mentorship to build confidence, discipline, and creativity in young people.

Her commitment to service continues through her active membership in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and the National Association of University Women—organizations that reflect her passion for sisterhood, scholarship, and community uplift.
