Today, the National Association of University Women, Inc. celebrates the birthday and enduring legacy of our founder Mary Church Terrell, born September 23, 1863.

A trailblazing educator, writer, suffragist, and civil rights advocate, Mary Church Terrell helped lay the foundation for generations of women to lead, serve, educate, and advocate for stronger communities.

As we celebrate her life, we remain inspired by her vision and the legacy that continues through the work of NAUW today.

It's Walk to End Alzheimer's time again! This annual event is very important to us since a few of our members have lost loved ones due to Alzheimer’s. Scientists are getting close to finding a cure so please join us and support the Alzheimer's Association.

We'll be walking at the Sheriff’s Safety Town (8910 Jewella Ave., Shreveport) Saturday, October 3rd at 9:00 AM. Will you join our team AND support us in the fight to by making a donation on our fundraising page and participating in the walk?

Donations can be made several ways:

Message from the sisters who attended the South Central Sectional conference - Pres. Maria Hogan, 1st Vice Pres. Tinikki Edwards, 2nd Vice Pres. Velma White, and Parliamentarian Sonja Polley:

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Mansfield Branch for allowing us the opportunity to attend the conference and represent our Mansfield branch. It was truly an honor. Our desire was to make you proud while gaining valuable knowledge and insight that will help us continue to strengthen and enhance the initiatives of our branch.

We also wanted to ensure that each of you felt included in the conference experience by sharing important information and highlights with all who were interested. The knowledge and inspiration we received belongs to all of us.

Our next project that we would like input on will be to create and present a scrapbook showcasing the many impactful initiatives and accomplishments of our branch for submission. We are excited to highlight the meaningful work being done through our branch by our sisters. We have some initiatives that are unique to our branch that impressed many of the sisters that we discussed them with. We made some sisterly connections and were able to witness Robert Rules of Order in full effect!

One of the greatest lessons we learned is that, while there is always room for growth and improvement, our branch is awesome!! Every single sister plays an important role in ensuring that our branch remains strong, purposeful, and impactful.

The power of educated women united in purpose is truly unmatched.

💚 May is Mental Health Awareness Month — and at NAUW SouthCentral, we believe that caring for your mind is just as important as any degree, career, or achievement you hold.

To every university woman carrying invisible weight right now: you are seen, you are valued, and you do not have to do this alone.

This month, we encourage our sisterhood to:

✅ Check in on a friend — not just "how are you?" but really listen
✅ Normalize therapy, rest, and setting boundaries
✅ Release the guilt of not being "strong enough"
✅ Remember that healing is not a detour — it is the path

Today we honor and celebrate the mothers, grandmothers, bonus mothers, caregivers, and nurturing women whose love, wisdom, sacrifice, and strength help shape our families and communities every day.

Mothers are educators, leaders, encouragers, and protectors, often carrying generations forward with grace and resilience. Their impact reaches far beyond the home and continues to inspire future leaders and changemakers.
